AZ2002 Vertex Powered Lift-Away Upright Vacuum with DuoClean PowerFins, Self-Cleaning Brushroll, Large Dust Cup, Pet Crevice Tool, Dusting Brush & Power Brush, Silver/Rose Gold

This is a beast of a vacuum. Just received it today and already have gone over most of my floors to pick up what my other smaller Shark did not pick up today and filled the canister. I bought this one because my other Shark kept getting my massive amount of dog hair clogged in the roller brush. This one already seems to not have a problem with clogging. I have a mixture of bare floors, throw rugs and carpet. You can see the vacuum sucking in debris on bare floors just by getting close to an area; the suction is that strong. It works on the carpet amazingly also. The throw rugs are a little difficult as the suction is so powerful. On other vacuums I can use the bare floor setting, but with this one, keeping it on high pile carpet seems to be the only way to not suck up the rugs completely. I originally wanted to rate this as 4 stars because the information provided for the vacuum is incorrect. The photos and description all show and state that there are three attachments. However, only two come with the vacuum, the crevice tool and dusting brush. The power brush does not come with it. I was pretty disappointed when I discovered this, as I have an older power brush that I love that I used so much it now is being held together with duct tape. But for the cost I saved on the vacuum during Prime Day, I could buy a ton of power brushes separately. As read in previous reviews this is definitely a heavier vacuum to push on carpets, but that's because it is so powerful. I will consider this a good workout as I clean the house.

I researched this vacuum heavily before buying it and honestly I was not sure it was going to be as good as everyone said. I was wrong. The vacuum is stellar. I can tell that it's cleaning the carpet in a way that it was not cleaned by my old Shark vacuum because of what I see in the dust cup as they call it.. it's hardly a cup it's huge. The one thing they don't tell you in all the reviews and videos that I watched is that the motorized brush rollers are really powerful. I'm 72 but fairly strong very physically active/fit and this thing just about ran away with me. It was a workout to use it. Not in a bad way but still a workout. The forward is easy..but on the backstroke you've got to really pull against those brushes that want to go forward. Very impressive results so far. I might update this after three or four months of using it. I have a low pile ribbed carpet and I've been using it on the medium setting which seems to be appropriate for this carpet. I've not tried it on my hardwood floors yet. All I can say is the suction is very strong and puts my older.Shark Navigator and classic Miele cannister vacuum to shame. Completely worth the slightly higher price, very easy to put together right out of the box,. I couldn't be more satisfied.

I wasn’t planning to get a new vacuum cleaner, but I changed my mind after I noticed a significant defect in our old one. I do the overall floor vacuuming and mopping in our house each week. For the last 6 or 7 years I’ve been using my Bissell, “lift-off” vacuum. I’ve been pleased with it and would’ve given it a “4 Star” rating. My only complaint was that I had to secure my brush attachment with a bungy cord, otherwise—if I hit a bump—the brush would just fall off. I also had to hold the electric cord in place with a clothespin. But other than that, I was quite satisfied with the performance. I recently bought an Oreck, “Orbiter,” floor polisher from Amazon, so I could better clean our hardwood floors. However, I also learned the unit could be used on carpets as well. For that you spread a cleaning powder over the carpet surface and then work it into the material with the Orbiter. After that you vacuum up the powder—which captures the dirt—and the job is done. That’s how it’s supposed to work. However, once I started vacuuming with my Bissell, I noticed there was a fine mist of powder leaking from a variety of areas on my unit. I could see white powder going into my dust cup, but it was also circulating into the air around me. I had watched videos online showing the Orbiter being used like this and then being vacuumed up with no problem. What was wrong here? I won’t go into my struggles looking for an answer, but eventually I decided to try using another vacuum we have. A few years ago, my wife bought a Shark, “Navigator,” vacuum cleaner, because she thought the Bissell was too heavy and noisy. I do most of the vacuuming, but she likes to touch up areas when necessary. My wife bought this after getting rave reviews from her mom and sister. I actually never used it because I had my routine down with the Bissell. Anyway, I decided to get the Shark and try my luck. I was pleasantly surprised when the Shark sucked up the powder and kept all of it in the dust cup. Problem solved. I was very impressed with the Navigator and started using it to do the whole house. However, I made the mistake ($) of checking out the Shark website and saw what upgrades were available. I actually did a lot of research via YouTube on Shark Vacuums and decided I really wanted a Vertex. I monitored the Shark website for possible sales and finally saw a good value on the Vertex model. I checked Amazon and noted they had the same “limited time deal” on the Vertex, so I ordered one immediately. By the way—when I checked the next day—the sale was already over. I know this is a long story, but I wanted to emphasize the importance of getting a superior filtering system. One of the videos I saw on YouTube was titled, “Don’t Buy a Cheap Vacuum.” One of the major points made was that everybody should spend enough money to get a “sealed” filtration system. Now I realized my Bissell must’ve been releasing invisible dust all these years. Yuck. Now I didn’t like my old vacuum very much at all. Anyway, I received my Vertex and used it yesterday and today (5/7/21). You know…I’m embarrassed to admit how much I like this machine and how excited I was to be getting it. The first day I worked on three bedrooms with carpets, two bathrooms with tile, and a hard floor hallway. For the record, I vacuum at least once a week and I’ve been using the Navigator for the past two weeks. However, after a normal run-through with the Vertex, the dust cup was full of crud—most of which—must have come from the carpets. I’m not exaggerating when I say I’ve never seen that much dirt come out of one vacuuming session and I had only done about one half of the house. It must’ve been pulled out of the carpets, because I know the floors can’t get that dirty. I know this review is too long, so I’ll just say that I really appreciate everything about this vacuum. The suction power is great. It handles easily and although I always wear ear plugs—my wife says it’s not too loud. There are plenty of informative videos about Shark vacuums on YouTube. If you’re considering getting a Vertex, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. Update: Oct. 13, 2024 I ordered a Shark, Vertex, upright vacuum cleaner, model # AZ2002 on May 2, 2021. I had read and watched several reviews on this item and they were all positive. However, about 7 or 8 months ago the “Power Head” unit—which is the part that houses the motor and rolls along the floor--would no longer stay secured in the upright position when I lifted the vacuum off the ground. I could still stand the vacuum upright, but as soon as I moved or lifted it, the power head would flop down into operating mode. The vacuum still worked normally, but it was inconvenient to use it this way. I looked on YouTube to see if I could find out what it would take to repair this problem and I learned repair technicians are very critical of Shark vacuums in general. For example, one of the first videos I watched is titled, “Why Can’t You Repair Your Shark Vacuum?” Another critical video is titled, “Everything Wrong with Shark Vacuums.” I won’t go into all the problems listed, but overall, the technicians complained that they couldn’t just order new parts to fix things, because Shark requires large portions of the machines to be ordered as complete units that can’t be pieced together with separate parts. I called “Hokemas”—the Vacuum and Sewing center I use in Redding, CA to inquire about getting this problem fixed. The employee answering told me that if the repair just required adjustments to the vacuum, they might be able to resolve the issue. However, if it required new parts, they wouldn’t be able to help. I asked why that was and he told me that their shop couldn’t get parts from Shark. This didn’t make sense to me, but I didn’t ask for an explanation at that time. Instead, I asked if they could check my vacuum for free—which is their policy—and let me know what I would need to do next. So, I dropped the vacuum off. There was a man and a young woman behind the counter. I explained the situation to the man and he took the vacuum and walked away. I heard him talking to the woman—who was walking with him—and I heard him say, “These Shark vacuums are good for about 2 or 3 years and then they implode.” That didn’t sound very encouraging. However, I noticed the shop had a full line of Shark vacuums in their display area. The employee phoned me later and said they couldn’t fix the problem and I would need to order a new power head from Shark myself, because they couldn’t get parts themselves. I wish I would’ve asked for more details about why this was true. When I got home and inspected the vacuum, I noticed a new problem. There’s a spongy front roller on the Vertex model which can be removed for washing by pressing a blue, thumb-size, round button on the left, bottom side of the vacuum. The button has a thin “lip” on the side which is what you push to disengage the roller. But when I tried to push the button to the side, it wouldn’t move. When I checked, I saw that the repair person had installed the button with the lip facing the wrong way and it wouldn’t move at all. I phoned Hokemas and explained the problem. I was told to bring the vacuum back and they would fix it. I drove back to the shop and spoke with the man who had disparaged Shark vacuums previously. I showed him the button and explained how it was reversed in position and that it wouldn’t release the front roller anymore. He noted this issue and took the vacuum. I later received a call letting me know the vacuum was repaired. However, when I went back to Hokemas, I saw the button was still misplaced and the roller was still stuck. The man said he could take it back for repairs again. I didn’t know if these people were incompetent or if they were just screwing with me. But I was so tired of dealing with Hokemas that I decided to just take the vacuum home and order a new power head myself from Shark—which I did. It cost approximately $90. The vacuum works fine again—for now. But there are now many things I don’t like about this model. Even before I found out why repairmen don’t like Shark, I didn’t like the idea that I couldn’t take this power head apart and replace the secondary roller myself. I also couldn’t dissemble it and clean the upper portion of the power head. Early on I noticed that dirt continues to collect inside the power head. You need to have a special tool to remove any screws and it’s not advised anyway, because there are a lot of electric wires spread around inside there. That issue was enough for me to decide not to buy this model again. But now I wouldn’t buy another Shark product at all. I still appreciate the power and performance of the Vertex and I'll keep using this one until it finally "implodes" for good.

Outstanding performance, frustrating to service This is honestly the best vacuum I’ve ever owned in terms of cleaning performance. The suction is excellent, the DuoClean/PowerFins head works extremely well on both carpet and hard floors, and it picks up pet hair and fine debris better than any vacuum I’ve used. If I were rating it purely on cleaning ability, it would easily earn five stars. That said, servicing this vacuum is much more difficult than it should be. I recently picked up a small rock that became wedged between the soft roller and the clear housing. It completely locked the roller. Removing it required security Torx bits, multiple plastic pry tools, and eventually a second person to help separate the housing just enough to free the rock. I’ve repaired computers before, so I’m comfortable working with hidden clips and delicate plastic tabs, and even I almost gave up because I was afraid of breaking the housing. This is a part of the vacuum that is naturally exposed to rocks, pet food, and other hard debris. It really should have a more service-friendly design. My other criticism is that several components—the hose, filters, and floor head—aren’t especially intuitive to remove or reinstall. Once you learn how they work they’re fine, but there is definitely a learning curve. Overall, I still recommend this vacuum because the cleaning performance is exceptional. I just wish Shark had put as much thought into owner maintenance as they did into suction performance

This is by far and away the absolute best vacuum I have ever used, let alone owned. For context, I have 2 dogs that together, leave enough doggy glitter around the house each day that one might think dust bunnies are real animals. I also live in a state with red dirt and I have allergies to everything that was every created on this great big round planet. That being said, I spent a lot of time researching the best non-commercial use vacuum that would accommodate our dander and dust heavy lifestyle. I could not have made a better choice. The suction on this is incredible. I had JUST vacuumed my closet with my old vacuum earlier that day and proceeded to vacuum it with my new vacuum, and it felt like a new floor. Also, with the filters in the vacuum, I suddenly was rid of a doggy odor I didn't even realize was there. It was actually unbelievable. Anyone around me for the following 2 weeks could not escape my raving about this vacuum. It was in that moment that I also realized I was getting old because I was excited about a vacuum, but that's beside the point. It's incredibly easy to use, lightweight and easily maneuvers around toys, chair legs and under furniture. I have used it on tile, high pile carpet, low pile rugs and even cowhide (I know, I know, I'm not supposed to vacuum it but just ignore that part). It has an auto shutoff on the spinning part if you accidentally start sucking up something like an upturned rug corner or, I dunno, the boho curtains with the little tassels you just had to buy in extra long length so they drag on the floor. I can say with 100% certainty that this is one of the best if not the best vacuum on the market that is relatively affordable while still being a powerhouse without breaking the bank. If you need a vacuum, look no further. Trust me, I did the research, this is a must buy!!

Our previous vacuum was a Shark Rotator TruePet, and it was fantastic. We only replaced it because our dog decided the power cord was a chew toy. Since then, we’ve been using a backup Dyson. I spent quite a bit of time researching all the different Shark models before deciding on the Vertex Powered Lift-Away, and I’m really glad I did. Before trying the new Shark for the first time, I vacuumed our bedroom with the Dyson. Then I immediately went over the same area with the Shark. The attached photo shows everything the Shark picked up after the Dyson had supposedly finished the job. I was honestly shocked. The suction is incredible. It’s so powerful that it almost feels self-propelled, and it pulls dirt, dust, and debris out of the carpet that you never knew was there. Our carpets look and feel cleaner, and it performs just as well on our hardwood floors. One of my favorite features is the self-cleaning brush roll. We have a constant battle with long hair getting wrapped around vacuum rollers (I swear my wife sheds more than our dogs😂), but so far this vacuum has kept the rollers completely free of tangled hair. If I could change one thing, it would simply be to make the power cord another 5–10 feet longer. That’s not a complaint about this vacuum specifically—it’s something I’d want on just about any corded vacuum. Overall, this vacuum exceeded my expectations. It has outstanding suction, works exceptionally well on both carpet and hard floors, and feels like a premium product. If you’re trying to decide between the many Shark models like I was, I can confidently recommend this one.

I honestly can't stand this vacuum. I purchased it as a 'Refurbished Like New' vacuum from a third party vendor. I'm so frustrated that I got stuck with it. First off, the company had a delivery window spread across the possibility of 4 1\2 months I think. It came literally on the last day that it could have. So I had to wait forever on this thing. Well by the time it came, I actually was getting ready to leave for an international work trip, so I did not have time to try it out. My 3 week trip ended up getting extended , so I missed my 30-day return window by the third party vendor. Came back plugged it in and I can't stand the thing. First, in some strange way it's too powerful, because I cannot put it on the light setting and have it not suck a rug up, yet while on the stronger setting it doesn't actually get pet hair off of a low pile carpet. I honestly think the settings are almost useless. Second, it doesn't have an extension wand for any of the attachments, so I have to attach it to the short handle, and that makes it nearly impossible to use any of the attachments. I'm not sure if the extension wand was supposed to come with it and it was missing, but regardless, it makes the attachments nearly impossible to use because there's not enough hose to reach anything. Which leads me to the third thing, the cord is actually too short. It is significantly shorter than my old navigator, so I actually have to plug it into two different plugs to do one room. That's crazy, at least make it a foot longer. Fourthly, it is so dang heavy and clunky, that I feel like I'm fighting the vacuum the entire time. I used to feel great after vacuuming, having a sense of accomplishment when I was finished, but I'm just flat out fatigued by the time I'm finished using this vacuum. And I do not have difficult carpets. I am completely disappointed with this vacuum cleaner and frustrated that I missed the return window, which wouldn't have happened if it would have arrived in less than FOUR and a half months. Clearly the seller was waiting for it to arrive from overseas. That should have caused me to question things a bit. But I guess that part is on me because I knew that it had the possibility of taking that long. But I thought surely it would get here quicker. I was wrong. As a side note, I never received a single update during the 4-month wait. I had to contact the company multiple times just to see if it was actually on its way. So generally, my experience buying this vacuum third-party also wasn't great. But in regards to the vacuum itself, if this is indicative of the Vertex Powered LiftAways, then I would steer clear of them. I'm entirely perplexed as to how this vacuum has received such good reviews. The only way I could see this vacuum being beneficial is if you have thick pile carpet and it's just a straightforward use. , This is my least favorite vacuum cleaner I've ever owned. I much preferred my 12-year-old Shark Navigator. I'm not a person who has a lot of money, so the fact that I spent over $300 on a vacuum cleaner that I'm stuck with is really frustrating. So I decided to write this review to hopefully head off others who might make the mistake of getting this thing. This is either poorly designed model from Shark or a poorly rebuilt one. All that I know is it isn't a good vacuum. Regardless, I just lost quite a bit of confidence in the Shark company. My old Navigator was amazing, and lasted for 12 years. My old one is now the cheapest of the Shark models, as they have added so many new ones since, but when looking at the new low tier ones like the original I'm replacing, they were made with incredibly cheap plastic. In fact, the bulk wholesale store that everyone knows, told me they were getting multiple returns bc the plastic lift away connector was breaking. So, in light of that, I decided to get the Vertex because it was said to be sturdy. Well, I just learned some very expensive lessons, expensive isn't always better, Shark is going down in quality and effectiveness, and if at all possible, I should avoid shopping from third-party vendors because the return window is too short. As I said, maybe it had nothing to do with the vendor refurbishing it improperly, but in the case this is legitimately what a shark vertex is like, then I disagree with the majority of the reviews out there regarding this model, as it simply isn't a good vacuum! I'm trying the best I can to get over my hate for this cleaner, but if I could do it over again, I would get the cheaper navigator, because this was NOT worth the money OR the wait!

This is probably the best vacuum I've ever owned. There are a host of things it does significantly better than the average ~$200-ish vacuum: suction, maneuverability, emptying, upright-to-canister swap, etc. This is by far the easiest to empty, compared to other bagless vacuums. Everyone has had to deal with hair/fur getting caught up in the top section of the dust bin of a bagless vacuum. Shark solved that not by trying to create a new vortex design, but by simply adding an easy to use button to open the top and dump it out. This means you just dump the dust and crumbs from the bottom first, then pop the top and dump any hair or other large clumps. The past three vacuums I've owned required me to dump the bottom and then either shove my hand up inside and drag the hair out, or twist and remove the central vortex guide that the hair gets wrapped around. My only complaint, if I had to force myself to come up with something would be that the dust bin is only about one half to one third the size of other, cheaper vacuums. Honestly, though, I still save an incredible amount of time using this vacuum because of how quickly I can empty it, even if I have to empty it twice as often. The switch from upright to lift-away canister vacuum is also quick and easy. I chose this vacuum for that feature and for its handling of long dog fur, and it has been worth it on both counts. My only real gripe with this vacuum is that you need to have a decent amount of wrist stength in order to handle it properly. The weight of the canister, the way it is mounted to the upright handle, causes the head to want to twist to one side or the other because of the way the head is mounted. This is a problem for many vacuums that have a fully-articulated neck joint, though uprights without a lift-away canister are generally mounted so that the weight of the dust bin isn't as pronounced as lift-away models are. I wouldn't recommend this vacuum for the elderly, or particularly petite women. On the other hand, the fully-articulated head makes getting around and under things simple and easy if you can handle the weight of the machine. 9.5/10 - would buy again, so long as it lasts long enough to justify the price.

I have owned this vacuum now for over three years. I live with two Labs that shed contently and need to vacuum daily. I have owned at least seven different vacs over the past 40 years always living with multiple dogs. This vac has outperformed all the vacuums that I have used. It is so well engineered and thoughtfully put together. The suction is incredible the rollers never get bunged up or clogged with hair. The ease of removing the main body from the business end of the vac allows for easy access to under furniture or use on stairs, not to mention the extra reach from the power plug that is obtained at least 5more feet. Clean out is a breeze with the trap door on the bin and the additional top door opening. It is such a good vacuum that I purchased one as a bonus for my G.M. when she mentioned she was looking for a vacuum. Although the cost is more than a lot of vacs but not as munch as the cordless hyped alternatives under the "D****" brand. Buy this vac you will not regret it.

I have a dog that has long hairs that shed 24/7. My Dyson animal upright was no match and died! This shark sucks up all the hair and NEVER gets hairs stuck on its floor motor head due to its unique paddle design. Likewise if u want to reach tight places or move it around, the vaccum comes apart and is easy to move around. Overall highly impressed.

I'm really impressed as to how well this little machine does. When I say little, I'm use to the big canisters such as Filter Queen and Kenmore that follow me around. It picks up dirt and cat/dog hair very well. This vacuum is almost self propelled. I don't have to put too much effort into making it go. I like that I can detach the canister and wand from the entire unit and go up the stairs and reach high spots like ledges. I had to get use to the swivel action. Yes, I would recommend this vacuum.
