Super easy way to charge a second battery in your vehicle. The Bluetooth app works perfectly.
This product works exactly as described. It’s a regulated DC/DC power supply and a DC charger. I’m using it to charge a 100A LiFePO4 battery in my vehicle to run a ham radio 100W transceiver. You can use the Victron app to choose a Lithium battery so no custom programming is needed. It’s isolated from the car battery so no issue of discharging your car battery. It also eliminates some of the RF noise from the alternator.

Great Solution for Charging Auxiliary Batteries Without Draining the Starting Batteries
I bought this Victron Orion-Tr Smart DC-to-DC charger to charge auxiliary batteries I was installing on my truck. I specifically did not want the auxiliary batteries directly connected to my starting batteries, for obvious reasons, and this charger did exactly what I needed. It’s not the highest-output charger available, but for my application the 18 amps is enough, and it charges my auxiliary batteries just fine. The built-in engine shutdown detection is especially useful because it can detect when the engine is running by monitoring the voltage coming from the starting battery and alternator. When the engine is running and the alternator raises the voltage, the charger can charge the auxiliary batteries, and when the engine shuts down, it stops charging so it doesn’t drain the starting batteries. Victron is a brand I’ve had very good experience with, and the Bluetooth connection to the VictronConnect app makes it easy to configure the charger and monitor what’s going on in real time. For my purposes, this was exactly the right solution: reliable, isolated charging for my auxiliary battery bank without risking my truck’s starting batteries. Five stars.

Installed on my 2018 Ford Transit to charge leisure battery. Works well and fairly easy yo wire. The Bluetooth app lets you monitor charging. Pretty cool stuff for the DYI camper van person.

Great, Simple 12/12 Charger for RV Lithium Upgrade
These things aren't as "smart" as some of the other Victron stuff - for example you cannot limit its max output current, but it's simple and works great. Since it cannot be limited I went with the 12/12 18A instead of the 12/12 30A to ensure I don't blow 12V aux fuses when the batteries are low. We upgraded the batteries in our Jayco 312BHOK to LiPo4 batteries and I wanted to make sure the trailer was "adapted" instead of worrying about back feeding or charging issues. I simply disconnected the Aux Charging leg of my 7 way from the trailer, ran it to the input side of the 12/12 18A, connected the - input leg to the ground coming off the 7 Way, and then ran the +/- outputs directly to my battery bus bars with a 30 amp breaker on the positive leg. It pretty much worked out of the box with one minor adjustment needed for my 2500 CTD Tow Vehicle - I had to change the Alternator detection from "Smart Alternator" to "Standard Alternator", but that was it. It detected that it was charging lithium batteries on its own and it does isolate the camper from the tow vehicle. Doing it this way I am limited to 18A of charge current from the my truck, but that's more than enough to run my 12V fridge going down the highway. We don't really do any boondocking or dry camping so I liked this solution of being able to tow it with any truck rather than using a bigger charge controller with extra dedicated high amperage 12V plugs that would limit me to only being able to charge with my truck towing it.

Easy install.
Super easy to hook up and seems to work well. The only thing I would say to change is the settings icon in the app. It blends in to the screen a little to good and is a little hard to spot out.

Perfect for charging trailer battery from tow vehicle
You probably already know that the 7 pin tow connector that is standard when towing a travel trailer is useless for charging the trailer's batteries - given the distance from the tow battery to the trailer battery you are lucky to get a trickle charge at best. So you need a DC-DC charger to do the job and I chose the 18 amp Victron to charge our 100Ah travel trailer battery. I wired in an 8 gauge hot wire from the tow vehicle's battery (a Jeep JKUR) back to the hitch and used a pair of 50amp connectors and ran a second hot wire from the hitch back to the Victron and then the battery. I ran 10 gauge black wire to the frame on both vehicles off the connectors. It all works perfectly, and I can monitor the state of charge from the tow vehicle using the Bluetooth app. You can program the voltages for each charging stage for any battery type and program an auto-shut-off so you don't drain the tow vehicle's battery if you stop the motor. All in all I'm very happy - the Jeep has a 160 amp alternator and doesn't seem to notice the load at all. Should you go big and up it from 18 amps to 30 or 40 amps? Well, if you have a big alternator and more battery capacity then yes, that would be a good idea. Of course you'll have to install big wire which costs more than my 8 gauge - I'd go 1/0 for 30 amps or more. In terms of how long it takes to recharge the battery, well it has been on float when we arrive at our next destination after a few hours driving. One time I just idled at a campsite to charge - while not as quick or fuel efficient as a generator, it will certainly get you by in a pinch and make a generator quite optional in many cases.

Perfect for electronics, including Synology NAS
Full time RVers here. Lots of 12v in the rig. I have an electronics cabinet with a Pepwave router, a TP Link switch, and a DS1522+ Synology NAS. That NAS is stupid picky about voltage. Since I've put this Orion unit in, the Synology hasn't crapped out a hard drive since. Quite happy with it, but then, eveyrone knows Victron is good stuff.

As I said long very good experience with Victron equipment, mostly battery chargers. Bought the 100V 30 amp 12/24-Volt when I started in Solar, great kit, tried all sorts of different types. Victron comes out tops. Should have stuck with Victron. This DC-DC charger is a little difficult to setup, rookie should be good with the setup as long as they check & double check. Ensure all crimps are good (Some of the crimps are poor, My 12V setup is 2 by 100 AH lead acid batteries & 2 by 130AH leisure batteries, supplied by a small mains homemade charger using a 240/15V Tx, 50A Full-wave rectifier with 2 10A Germanium blocking diodes to block any spikes & earth faults. Also have another mains auto charger as backup. The 100A LA batteries are connected to the Victron MMPT 30 / 12/24 solar supplied by 2by 35V max V, 340W panels. (wish I could afford to get another 2 of these) Output on full moon lit night was up to 50W. I had a Renogy DC-DC 12 20A charger fitted, NFG. Fitted the Victron 18 DC-DC . Charging a Moseworth 12V 200AH Lifepo4 (Best battery buy on reviews for price & support at the time) I have set this up to keep a constant charge of 13.4V, Now changed to 14V, it is holding the charge well, I run outside lights, garage 12 volt lighting & PTC heating for winter & comfort, compared to the Ren this is keeping the charge stable. took all charging off the Lifepo4 & then switched on the Victron DC-DC on magic. I have a YZPOWER 14.6V 20A LiFePO4 charger as backup connected to the Lifepo4 in parallel with the Victron, works well with both switched on both work together. I have a test discharger 12V 15A, When I switch everything on the Ferrite core Dc meter shows full charge current on the 18A charger. There were 5 massive trees blocking sunlight, Lady at the back on the south end of house has removed them so I would say 200% more sunlight, if not more, winter will tell. Comments: 1. Victron is expensive, you pay for what you get. Wish I could afford the Victron batteries. Life of LA 5 years compared to Lifpo4 8 to 10 years 2. If you can go for Lifpo4 batteries, LA do not last, there are ways to regenerate LA batteries, look it up, time consuming as in 4 to 5 days, difficult, need new acid (UK you need a licence) 3. Will either sell or use the Ren charger on my system in the study. 4. Reason for 4 stars, Never give 5 till proved. 5. Pity it does not have the blue tooth socket. It is working VERY well. You pay for what you get. 5 stars. Brilliant. Best buy I made.

Veramente completo e di qualità.
Ho installato e configurato il caricatore Orion TR-Smart da 18A isolato sulla mia autovettura dotata di alternatore classico da 120A, per caricare una batteria Lifepo4 ausiliaria da 50Ah. La configurazione tramite l'app ufficiale è abbastanza intuitiva, fatta eccezione per alcuni parametri relativi all'alternatore, per i quali ho dovuto consultare alcuni video youtube. Dopo aver compreso il significato di alcune voci, ci si rende conto che questo caricatore non è un giocattolo, ma un prodotto professionale. Una volta impostato tutto come desideravo, il caricatore funziona alla grande. Entra in funzione e porta la batteria alla carica completa in brevissimo tempo. Inoltre, scalda molto meno di quanto temessi. Lo uso da un paio di mesi e per il momento mi ritengo davvero soddisfatto. Siccome sono abbastanza perfezionista, spero che il produttore rilasci in futuro un aggiornamento firmware che consenta anche su questo caricatore di monitorare e regolare l'amperaggio in entrata e in uscita come sulla nuova serie di caricatori XS. Difatti, nel mio caso, limiterei la corrente in uscita a 5 o 10A, così da ridurre un pò il carico sull'alternatore durante la fase di bulk.
