Quick transfers!
As a photographer (f my granddaughter mostly!) and general tech enthusiast, the SanDisk 4TB Extreme PRO Portable SSD has been a lifesaver for my storage needs. First off, the capacity is enormous – 4TB gives me room for thousands of photos, videos, and even backups of my PC games, all in a drive that fits in my palm. The speed on this thing is no joke: when connected to a compatible USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 port, file transfers are blisteringly fast. Large 4K video files move in seconds, and even on a regular USB-C 3.1 connection I’m getting excellent throughput. I was also pleased to see that the firmware was up-to-date (SanDisk addressed some past issues with an update), and I haven’t encountered any data hiccups or disconnects. Physically, the drive feels rugged yet lightweight. It has a durable rubberized coating and is IP65 water/dust resistant, which adds peace of mind when I’m on the go. I actually dropped it accidentally from about 3 feet onto a hard floor, and it survived without a scratch and kept working perfectly. It does get a bit warm during heavy transfers, but not alarmingly so – just something I noticed when moving nearly a terabyte of files in one session. The only other minor con is the included USB-C cable is quite short, but that’s easily swapped. Overall, this portable SSD is worth every penny for the speed and space it provides. Whether you’re editing video, backing up important documents, or expanding console storage, the SanDisk Extreme PRO delivers top-tier performance in a pocket-sized package.

Powerful, fast, and rugged portable SSD that handles everything with ease
This portable SSD is easily one of the best I’ve used for on-the-go storage. The speed is impressive—transfers up to 2000MB/s make moving large files like videos or backups quick and painless. The USB-C connection is solid and compatible with most modern devices without fuss. Its compact size and durable design, with IP65 water and dust resistance, mean I can toss it in my bag without worrying about damage. I’ve taken it to work, on trips, and used it daily for heavy file storage, and it hasn’t skipped a beat.Whether you’re a creative professional, gamer, or just someone needing reliable portable storage, this drive delivers top-tier performance in a small package.

Is it the best, the smallest and the fastest...No, but...
There are other drives out there that are faster, smaller and cheaper, but where this one excels is the overall design. It's made to take a beating. If you travel at all, even just going back and forth across town carrying something like this, things do happen, data is valuable and at this point I will carry around none of the others and I do have several. I consider USB4 and Thunderbolt 4 game changers. It makes external SSD drives for the first time actual usable devices in your daily grind and not just for backup purposes only. Being able to use the same data on multiple devices from a something that you can hang from a belt loop or slip in your pocket and not worry too much about dropping it or getting it a little damp, it's worth every penny. I've only had this one for a day, but the brand is not known for turning out junk and this one look and feels like a winner. If something changes, I'll update this review, but I seriously doubt it will.

An Important Re-consideration (from 1 star to 5)
This device was not recognized on a WIN-7 computer. It runs just fine on a WIN-10.Original Review base on Win-7 OS —-Worked once. Second time I plugged it in, my system didn't even *try* to recognize it. Absolutely nothing showed up on the files display. Worse than worthless - it lets you backup files on its first use, then stops working completely so your backups are forever gone.I would like to know more about the lawsuit.

BRICKED SSD After 6 Months. MacOS users out of luck.
My experience is a breach of trust in the WD brand. I'm a macOS user working with large files for photography and videography. I've been a WD customer since the first My Passport and My Book HDDs. I bought the 4TB Extreme PRO V2 because I enjoyed using the 2TB Extreme V2. I figured the faster R/W speed and storage space would mean an even better user experience. Right? Wrong. After only six months of storing over 2TB of data, my system no longer recognized the disk. The only actions my system allowed me to take were to either Eject, Initialize or Ignore the disk. None of these were optimal. Yet the hurdles to hunting for a solution frustrated me even more. That's when I learned about the firmware issue from WD's response to another reviewer's comments. The device impact checker confirmed my disk "may have been impacted." Discovering that my only options were to use a PC to download and install the firmware update or contact customer support infuriated me. WD must not value its macOS customers for it not to offer an easy way for us to update the firmware. We are Mac users for a reason.Instead of having it done the easy way, I get a complicated set of instructions to download and install a third-party program called RescuePRO Deluxe. Now here's where I got super angry with this experience. Customer support told me that though the program might be able to preview in evaluation mode, I would need to pay for it to back them up to my local hard disk. In other words, the customer MUST PAY for WD's negligence to address this issue before they shipped these drives. On top of that, I learned that if this program failed to retrieve my files, my last line of defense was to pay for third-party hardware data recovery. I think WD should pay for this, not the customer they failed. At the very least, WD should replace my bricked SSD with a working one and include shipping costs.I ran RescuePRO Deluxe overnight and returned to find that it could not produce a preview of any recoverable files. Not one byte of my more than 2TB of data was retrievable. Incredible. I cannot recover my files and am too cash-strapped to pay for hardware data recovery. I can't believe I spent $400 for a bricked SSD. This event prompted me to write this review to steer others clear of this debacle and look elsewhere for portable storage solutions.
