Protection from ozone
I needed protection from ozone and the specifications for the 2097 filter mention this protection. There is however protection from many other small particles like metal or oil: "NIOSH approved for environments containing certain oil and non-oil based particles. 3M recommended for nuisance level organic vapor relief and for ozone protection up to 10X OSHA PEL.The 3M™ Particulate Filter 2097, P100, with Nuisance Level Organic Vapor Relief helps provide respiratory protection against exposure to lead, asbestos, cadmium, arsenic, and MDA. The filter is effective for concentrations up to 10 times the Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL) with half facepieces, or 50 times PEL with quantitatively fit tested full facepieces. This filter helps protect against a wide range of oil and non-oil based particulate contaminants. The filter also offers nuisance level odor relief from organic vapors that are below the PEL. Nuisance level refers to concentrations not exceeding OSHA PEL or other applicable government exposure limits, whichever is lower. Do not use for respiratory protection against organic vapors or in environments that are immediately dangerous to life or health (IDLH). The 2097 is commonly used for welding, brazing, torch cutting, metal pouring and soldering. Inventory needs and training requirements of safety equipment are reduced because this filter works for many different applications. This filter is commonly used in the following industries: agriculture, construction, general manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, primary metals. The filter works with a wide range of facepieces, including 3M™ Half and Full Facepieces 6000, 7000 and FF-400 Series. If used with 3M™ Adapter 502, the filter may also be used with 3M™ Respirator 5000 Series or 3M™ Cartridge 6000 Series. The filter is NIOSH (National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health) approved for environments containing certain oil and non-oil based particles. The filter has been assigned the color code “Magenta” in the NIOSH system. Passing NIOSH’s P-series test criteria, the 2097 P100 filter provides at least 99.97 percent filter efficiency against particles. Breathing hazardous particles can pose a risk to your health. NIOSH, a Federal government regulatory agency, has tested and approved the 3M™ Particulate Filter 2097 to help reduce exposure." The mask is somewhat uncomfortable but P100 suggests that it is better than N95.

Good fitting and effective
It works, it fits, and it's comfortable. I previously had the medium size which kinda-sorta fit but I found I was constantly fiddling with it to make sure I maintained a good seal. With this one I put it on and forget about it.There is another type of mask that has a "drop down" feature, which means when you undo the clasps at the back the mask drops down off your face. That's handy if you want to pop it off for a minute to talk/eat/drink etc but it's not a big deal to lift this one out of the way if you need to.Some reviews commented on it coming without the filters. Mine came with the filters, as expected. Not sure if some people are ordering from third party sellers or what. I'm still using the filters that came with my previous respirator and they fit just fine.I wore my respirator for several hours while pulling down an elderly lath-and-plaster wall and some 1930s drywall. Previously I'd used a paper dust mask for that kind of work and found I got enough dust in my nose to be annoying. After some hours of pulling stuff down and cleaning up dust (including getting quite close to piles of dust as I swept them into a dustpan, prior to sucking up the remainder in a shop vac), virtually nothing got through. The very small amount that got through suggested I didn't have the mask fitted quite perfectly, but obviously it was pretty close. For my purposes I'm not hugely bothered if I don't have a perfect seal - my usage is more for building dust rather than specifically hazardous material. That said, this thing feels like it would stand up just fine if I was removing nastier material than plaster dust.

Does the job well
I had to go into a moldy and dusty old house to clear out for sale. This mask did the trick as I have very reactive lungs. I would suggest the filters on this often. If you are in the same situation works great and made me feel safe. I also literally could not smell the mold at all. This mask is top quality and a real lifesaver. It is also lightweight.

Saving my lungs!
I bought this mainly for yard work. When I pulled up ivy or worked with dark-coated fungal leaves on hollies and camellias, I always would get the dreaded cough for days. Buying this, I haven't had any issues. Just make sure it fits well and goes under the chin. I also used it in a bathroom, painting with primer. I couldn't even smell the paint but when I took it off, Wow! It works well and has saved my lungs. I bought my husband one for mowing the yard, especially during this pollen season.

Amazing budget respirator
Comfortable and reliable. It’s not as comfortable as it could be, but for 20$ it’s very solid. Fits my welding hood perfectly and no weird silicone smells. The design is pretty versatile for different sized heads.

Still working fine.
I have had this respirator for a long time. It works well. Filters are easy to change. I use it around the shop. I have one that a friend uses when mowing lawns. He gets good use from this mask. This mask is NOT for medical use.

Breath easier!
Save your lungs if your kicking up dust! Sanding, cutting, grinding: save your breath with this. I mine and do lapidary work so this is a must; unless you want mud and concrete filling up your chest. Do it!
