Ugh
I unwittingly rented this... and regretted it within minutes, as the bogus CGI inserts began to annoyingly intrude. These ought be little more than silly vanity edits by an insecure director who doesn't believe audiences can think for themselves and is obsessed with consistency; but much worse, they interfere with the both the pacing and texture of the film, robbing it of its magic. What made the first Star Wars special was the quickness of the story, the fast-paced editing that didn't need a lot of tiresome little asides. This version plods along, drearily stopping for cameos of characters to come or pointlessly dallying with CGI creatures that are nothing more than window-dressing. What a mindless bore.Don't waste your time with this dreck. Buy the original, as that's the only way you'll see it now.

Hoped for theatrical. Got the cringy updated version. Should have returned it.
The movie it great. The updated version is so bad and cringy that I've only watched this once in like a year and just can't get myself to watch it again. I thought I had read that the digital streaming versions were the theatricals. Wrong.

NOT the 1977 version...
Ugh...thought I would showcase the awesomeness of the original Star Wars experience to my boys and daaaaang it is the "remastered" version. Just lame-o. Stupid added bs and obvious enhanced graphics which (spoiler) are not enhanced and just create a disparity in the Force. Watching this makes me want to join the Dark Side. The release date says 1977 - which means this should be the 1977 version....

Great Story Marred by Technology
I could never really downgrade the story here but I can nick off a point for this "deluxe" version. I don't mind if the production company wants to take editing floor material and reinsert it into the film. After all, everybody already knows who's who and what's going to happen. Extra shots can add backstory or context and they do that here, to some extent. The problem is that the original movie was done with traditional film but someone decided to add new digital material with CGI. Now you have a huge difference in film quality and every time "enhanced" footage is added, it looks completely fake and totally unlifelike. To be fair, there are sequences that have been added from old footage, sequences that add to character development and overall plot. They don't in any way alter anything major but they fit in smoothly and I welcome them. But digitally inserting characters and creatures into an analog feature is an amateur manoeuvre for which the consumer should not foot the bill.

A New Hope in 4k UHD is Worth It
I’m not too far into the movie, but I must say the 4k Ultra HD Blu-Ray of A New Hope looks awesome. The picture looks cleaner. The details are much more noticeable. You’ll pick up on little things you didn’t see before from scuffs on Vader’s suit, to dirt on the Stormtroopers armor, and so on. All in all, the visual quality is top notch. From a sound standpoint especially if you have the ability to use Dolby Atmos, it’s the best this movie has sounded yet.I won’t touch on the story because we all know how great it is, but I’m very impressed with this 4k remastering.

Loved it, the special edition didn't ruin the film
I am a huge Star Wars fan and just recently bought the digital six film collection for Star Wars in the Prime video format. I've seen these movies before and never get tired of watching them over and over again. A lot of people seem to be disappointed as the theatrical version of the film is not available on prime video. I too feel that it's stupid that they couldn't put in on, but I disagree with anyone who thinks this version of A New Hope at all ruins the movie. The great story and characters are still there, the plot is still intact. I do miss the original version of the film, but this one did not disappoint, and it will satisfy me for years to come.

Please Don't buy any of these movies from Amazon
I'm a big Star Wars fan and wanted to finally collect these movies on blu ray. I bought them in new condition directly from Amazon so I assumed they'd be great. Unfortunately, this was not the case. Both A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, and Revenge of the Sith are all missing the slipcovers and it was just the blu ray box. Now it didn't explicitly say you get a slipcover for the blu ray but that's what the picture shows and it says NEW condition so I would assume I would get the original packaging. And while Attack of the Clones did have a slipcover, it had clearly been water damaged and still had the leftover residue from a plastic label. While the other two seem fine, I decided to not give amazon my business and just return all of them and get my money back. Although they are more expensive at Best Buy, I trust them a lot more at this point. So if you're buying A New Hope or any of them just to watch the movie then they might be okay for your needs but if you want to collect these/display them on a shelf please do yourself a favor and don't buy them from Amazon.

Memories of 1977...
What more can I say? Other than feeling like I've paid to see this movie a hundred times, it still takes me back to my first viewing - sitting in the very front row of a packed theater on my birthday in 1977.It is great to see it, finally, in digital format on my flatscreen HD TV, as it does bring back those amazing memories. The opening scene of the Star Destroyer slowly lumbering across the top half of the screen as it chases Princess Leia's doomed ship... somehow. some way, it still gives me a thrill. So, plunked down the $20, and, I have to admit, it still makes me smile like am awestruck boy in 1977.

Original theactrical version?
I bought this because it said that it had the original theatrical version of Star Wars. Sad to say it IS NOT the original version this is an early George Lucas updated version. Obi Wan's cry to scare the sand peopke off from Luke is not the original. At Mos Eisley spaceport there are robots and people walking between the camera and Luke's speeder when they're being stopped by the storm troopers I could go on but NO this is NOT the original theactrical version

A New hope - Limited Edition - Review
(The product being reviewed here is the gold top and bottom LIMITED EDITION THX case. Blue background, Luke at the front, with Han on the left and Leia on the right. And Vader in the top right, with other characters around them.I have given the full description because I was uncertain what review was for what as Amazon have unhelpfully compiled them all together. The STAR WARS IV: A New Hope (Limited Edition) DVD contains the following:Disc 1: 2008 remastered version - with a few of George Lucas' changes. For anyone under 20 years old (or maybe older) these changes will probably seem like they've always been there and are the star wars movies you grew up with. This is good quality picture and sound just like every other DVD.(Shame this version of the films isn't on blu-ray :/ )Disc 2 (BONUS DISC)Contains the original unchanged episode.Quality is as expected considering its been unchanged but its nice to experience the star wars film that would've been seen when first released. If you're looking for the original, untampered episode, buy this.Casing:Is in very very good condition, baring in mind I purchased it new.

Like many other Star Wars fans i was not that ...
Like many other Star Wars fans i was not that impressed with many of the changes George Lucas made in the digitally remastered versions, even if the overall quality of the image was improved. My old from-TV VHS recordings are long gone, and i've been waiting since then (circa 1990) to get hold of a DVD version of the original, pre-remastered, films for the original triology. This is that version. A two disk set with both the remastered and original film version in the case. With the slew of Star Wars re-releases we've had over recent decades it's been hard to tell the wood from the trees in relation to getting the original films, so here are a few pointers to help. For the first film, Star Wars Episode IV, A New Hope:1. The ASIN code is: B000FMH8UI2. The code on the base of the spine is: 33919010013. The cover is as shown in the amazon listing for this review, with the 'Limited Edition' banner in gold along the top.4. On the back it will say: "Disk 2: Original theatrical (1977) version of Star Wars"Now i've seen people remark that the quality of the original version is terrible, and i can't agree. Maybe we have become too used to over-saturated HDR and computer enhanced visuals? Certainly my viewing of the original versions in this set was no different to the VHS version i had previously or the countless times i watched it on TV as a kid. It's an old film, and these are old recordings of an old film, but in no way is the quality so bad as to ruin your enjoyment of the best of sci-fi stories in film.It is also possible to adjust the settings on most modern TV sets, or even in the software you use if viewing on your PC to get the 'best' viewing you can, i had to darken it slightly to suit my TV, but in general these are not destroyed by blurring or artifacts, certainly no more than the original film was.And finally, thank you George Lucas for eventually listening to the many Star Wars fans that really wanted these versions, it's been a longtime coming, but awesome none the less.

Hans shot first!
Are you uncomfortably aware of childhood memories of a loved film being gradually eroded by rewatching the tinkered about with versions?Get this.Saw so many comments about picture quality I was worried. Stuff and nonsense, still heads and shoulders above what else was made at this time. What Lucas did in the late seventies is breathtaking, he should be proud to have it out there. What Lucas did With earlier CGI - not so much.
