TomTom VIA 1415M 4-Inch GPS with Lifetime Map Updates

Simple to use, simply to update. Mount leaves a lot to be desired. A good little GPS as always from TomTom

I bought this product TomTom VIA 1415M 4-Inch GPS around six month ago but I started using this gps recently. It is a defective product. I used it for 1 week only. It is not getting switched on afterwards. It is really cheating.

I really like the user interface on this device. I use a lot of favorites. I find it easy to manage my favorites. Saving and navigating to my favorites is also easy. I like the way my favorites are presented in alphabetic order. But on the downside, the unit takes minutes, sometimes 3, to acquire a gps signal when the unit is turned on. Also, I've had trouble with the unit losing its gps signal while driving. It is the gps signal problems that have driven my decision to replace this device.

great product, works perfectly

It is a pretty good GPS for the price. However, it does have some drawbacks. Several times it has said that a POI is there but it is not. The voice clarity is good and it does a better job at pronouncing names than previous models. The driving break feature is interesting and a good reminder to take a break.

We need these for work but honestly they could be way better. Traffic updates are never accurate and you need to purchase the special charging/traffic update power cord to get any kind of accurate warnings. Would be better off with google maps but our drivers can not use phones while driving.

Follow the installation guides to the T and you'll be fine. I find issues arrive if you do the installation steps out of order (I.E. plugging in the GPS before you should). This is my second Tom-Tom and it works similar to the one I had previously (a GO model). Only issue with this device is that it doesn't provide live traffic updates, which my old Tom Tom had, but other than that it loads quickly and I haven't had any problems using it. If you need one every day this might not be the best one for you, but if you need one from time to time this one is great. I've seen complaints about people missing turns, but I've used this model for about 5-10 trips so far without issue. Decent GPS, with lifetime maps? Can't go wrong for the price.

The lock/unlock mechanism in the mount doesn't work and 90% of the time you have to yank it out of the windshield. The mount is built-in, so you can't use any 3rd party grips or mounts. The display and processing tech is from another era altogether. Come on TomTom, the display/touch tech and speed of this device is only slightly better than the one I bought 8 years ago. Also, I don't think live traffic update works, because recently I went to Montreal downtown and the highway was closed due to construction. No matter which detour I took, this GPS wouldn't adjust the route and kept taking me back to the highway, so I had no choice but to switch to google navigation on my smartphone to get to my destination. However, for the price it does cover the basics and provides accurate general navigation, so a fair rating.

Have 2 garmin nuvi's, been using garmin for over 12+ years. Always assumed tomtom was not as good since it's always cheaper than a garmin. Bought this one on sale and it is actually much better than nuvi in terms of features. The most annoying thing about garmin is that you need to go back to settings to either avoid tolls or use tolls. And garmin takes quite a while to find satellites and do re-calculations. Tomtom has feature to ASK you as it calculates the route if you want to use available toll roads. Love that. Also like it telling me where there is parking at the location. Finding satellites and re-calculating routes are quick. The only downsides I've seen so far with tomtom is that it took all night to update the map. Also there is a very loud annoying alarm sound when you get near a POI, and there doesn't seem to be way to just show the POI on the map without the loud alarm sounding. So I end up turning off all the POI to avoid the crazy alarm.

I had to return the product because it didn't find certain streets.

This was a life savor on an east coast road trip i recently did, but there were a few glitches, sometimes the GPS would loose it's route and it would have to be re-set, the maps were not updated (said it was 30 months old) but there are free updates for life. Not always the quickest route compared to something like waze on the cell phone, but I do recommend this for any road trips for sure! Will be attaching this to my motorcycle trips now!
