I bought this for my daughter to keep her safe when she hikes in national parks ! It’s a very nice barbell and loud enough for the bears to hear !

These bells are indeed nice and loud. It is time for bears to be awakening from their hibernation. I use these when I walk the trails in the woods so that I don't have any undesired animal interactions. I have had dogs run to me in the woods from their far-away owners, so I know the bell is heard.

We've recently moved to the mountains and I walk my dog a lot, sondtimes when it's dark in the a.m. and p.m. My neighbors said to get a bell and/or whistle because "bears don't like to be surprised". I don't want you be surprised by a bear...so I've armed myself with this purchase. I must say the quality of the bell and whistle is excellent. The pieces are weighty ( not heavy) and the finish looks expensive. They come with a convenient caribiner- like ring to hook them into a belt loop or fanny pack. The bell sound is very Zen,cand the even whistle is a nice sound ...not ear- splitting. I have only carried it for a few nights so I can't really say yet if it works...but as long as I don't see bears I'll be glad to give the credit to this duo. Nice purchase.

Had a bear, who was frequenting our garden. We were so afraid he would get between us and the door to the house while we were quietly tending the garden. This is a really great loud whistle and bell. We just put them on a belt loop or button hole and, didn't have to keep talking to ourselves. Bears stay away from humans if they hear you. And lastly, they don't like ammonia. We put a couple cans with ammonia soaked rags in them and haven't seen him since. Certainly cheaper than a fence.

Love the bear bell. A lot of people are annoyed by it but I like that people and animals are alarmed that your coming.

UGH, I tried the whistle, it is just a little wind noise coming out. Not loud or scary at all. Gesh, at least let the whistle be good enough to alert someone.

I purchased this bear bell to install on the handlebars of my mountain bike after a surprise encounter with a sow black bear and her cub while mountain biking one morning. The bike allows me to cover a lot of ground quickly and, apparently, quietly. I had a rattle on my bike and I pulled off on a short, dead-end spur trail to investigate and fix the cause. Not long after I dismounted the mama bear came charging over a nearby knoll in my direction and stopped. She must've been feasting on the ripening wild blackberries in the clearcut I was in. Then I heard a noise over my left shoulder and I turned and saw a bear cub skidding down a fir tree. I suddenly realized I was right in the middle. Thankfully when the cub reached the ground it ran off into the woods, followed several agonizing seconds later by the mama bear. I'm hoping it was just a one-in-a-million encounter, but I installed this bear bell on my bike to, hopefully, avoid any more bear encounters. It rings constantly when I hit bumps along the dirt trails. It has a pleasant sound that doesn't get annoying.

This bell has a loud, but not unpleasant sound to it. Its tone travels a long ways in the forest. We use it even when walking down our trails at night. Of course it keeps all other types of wildlife away, but I’d rather do that when walking on a forest trail than run into a bear! So far no bears! The clamp attaches easily to the handle of my walking stick. It will also attach easily to a belt loop etc. Heavy duty, well made bell!

Bell and key ring - carabiner are solidly made. Bell is loud, and has a clear tone. The bonus whistle is lightweight pot metal, and has a lightweight split ring - but lightweight is good for hiking. Whistle is loud.

I like this item well enough that, when the split key ring I used broke and I lost the bell while hiking, I purchased another one. Pros: - bell is a perfect size for a medium-large dog - bell sounds nice (not annoying) -- it "tinkles" instead of "jingles" - bell is decently loud - bell looks good (we get lots of compliments on the trails) - whistle is convenient and sounds loudly Cons: - bell doesn't ring all the time due to restrictive pendulum - bell isn't brass or bronze -- coating wore off in places due to abrasion (but no rust) - lanyard is fragile and therefore useless (I uses a carabiner to attach to my dog's collar) - chain on whistle is fragile (but you can run a split key ring through the whistle) - a bit expensive for what it is
