Learning Resources Multiplication Swat

I ordered this game when my son brought home a failing grade on a multiplication test. He does not enjoy reviewing flashcards, but the fact that this is a “game”, he loves it! And his multiplication test scores have been steadily improving!

Absolutely love these games. My kid who struggles with reading always wants to play. Highly recommend.

The concept is great! The flies have the answers for the different multiplication families. For example, the light green flies hold the answers to the 2 family, the dark blue flies hold the answers to the 3 family, so on through 12. I love that each family has a color so the players can work on individual times families before moving on. As the caller calls out a problem “2 x 9” players use their fly swatters to swat the fly with the correct answer. First one to correctly find and swat the fly gets to keep it. To make it more interesting, some flies have jelly on the back (keep the card but miss a turn), fly spray (lose the fly and place it out of play) and friendly fly ( get an extra turn). Play can get hysterical pretty fast with all players swatting at the correctly numbered flies and multiplication tables are quickly learned. After each times table is learned, you can combine several levels for review and to make the game challenging. Two problems: Several of the fly colors: the red and orange, the purple and blue are so close I had to separate them using their numbers. I couldn’t tell the difference in colors. No flash cards are included. I went to Teachers Pay Teachers and downloaded flash cards to keep with each fact family so we could draw a card. Made it so much easier than just calling one out. All in all a fun, easy game. Just needed a bit more preparation to play initially.

My students love this game! They are having fun and learning at the same time. The cost is comparable to other games. I will say I did have to show my students how to use the fly swaggers carefully because they got so into it that they were smacking them too hard and cracked one of the fly swatters.

This game makes learning multiplication facts fun!

In order for kids to play unassisted, I made up some cards with multiplication problems on them. They could have been supplied in the game, but it's not a big issue to make your own. I sorted the flies into tables groupings (elastic bands easily keep them together) so I can quickly get a centre up and running and have children concentrate on a particular table(s) in one session. How they play with my modification: flip the card, read the problem, spot and whack the answer fly. Other students will stop them if they try to claim victory with an incorrect answer.
