Micronized Instant Kava Powder - Fiji Loa Waka (4 oz)

I'll preface this by saying I've been super excited to receive this product in the mail and I was worried it wouldn't live up to my expectations. I've read reviews for Kalm's micronized products and they have all been awesome. This particular product (loa waka) had yet to have a review for the micronized version, but I knew I wanted the effects of the particular type of kava so I went on a whim and bought it. I'm not disappointed! Being that this is my first kava experience, I don't have much to compare it to... but if you're looking for something that will help you relax after a long day, this is it! I was looking for something other than alcohol to unwind with and this definitely stands up to alcohol. My body feels relaxed... I want to say 'rubbery' but my mind feels the same way. Almost like the stress of the day has melted away and I'm just left feeling good. It really is comparable to Xanax, but without the harmful side effects. I would say this is a good kava to unwind with on the couch in the evenings. It doesn't left me feeling tired, but I don't want to go out and socialize with every person I see either. I prepared mine with 2 teaspoons in a mug of almond milk with a packet of stevia. I actually don't mind the taste by itself, but the stevia made it way more enjoyable. It's nutty and smooth and slightly numbs the mouth - almost as if you had a bit of oragel in your mouth. Within minutes I felt very relaxed and made my way to the couch to curl up with my pup and a movie. I hear kava has a reverse tolerance, so I'll update my review as time goes on. I will also try other varieties from Kalm, included the non-micronized versions. All-in-all, if you're looking for something to unwind with that won't affect your mind or judgement - this is it! I could see it being an awesome post-workout drink as well. Buy this stuff, you won't be sorry!

I bought this variety of Kava along with the Vanuatu Borongoru to help me with relaxing at the end of the day because I deal with constant stress in my life and sometimes it can be hard to unwind. The taste isn't great but that's normal with kava. The calming and relaxing effects start to kick in within 5-10 minutes and last for around 6 hours. Both the Fiji Loa Waka and Vanuatu Borongoru varieties have been amazing meditation aids. Unfortunately, after using both types of kava for two weeks I ended up breaking out in hives and a rash which took about 3 weeks to clear up. I honestly don't know why it happened; I previously used instant kava from another brand sporadically over the course of 2 months and never had any bad effects. I don't think I'm outright allergic to kava but maybe I have a sensitivity to the two strains I bought or maybe I have a sensitivity to the sediment in micronized kava. I did notice that the micronized kava had sort of a laxative effect on me which the instant kava didn't have; I thought it was just that the sediment was giving me extra fiber but maybe it was a sign of the sediment upsetting my stomach. All in all, it's good kava and I just unfortunately had a bad reaction for whatever reason. I'm going to give my body time to recover from whatever happened and then try again, with either a quarter or half dose and strained before drinking. That way, even if I have another bad reaction it won't be quite as bad and then I'll know for sure it's either a full kava allergy that for some reason took a while to start affecting me or a sensitivity to these two strains in particular.

I love Kava, so I ordered this product to give it a try. 1. I coincidentally got a throat infection a few days after getting this product and my WHOLE THROAT WAS COVERED IN WHITE SPOTS- ew right???? On top of that its Thanksgiving so no pharmacy was open to fill my prescription mouthwash which has a numbing agent in it. I decided to try this product to numb my throat (the pain was EXCRUCIATING. This WORKED BETTER THAN LIDOCAINE- a local numbing agent used in medical procedures). I can not be happier with this. I was immediately relieved by the numbing plus I got the wonderful feeling that comes along with Kava 2. I have epilepsy (I TALKED TO MY DOCTOR ABOUT THIS FIRST) and since Ive started taking this, I have only had minor twitches instead of the mycologic, colonic, AND tonic-colonic seizures that I get about every week or 2 times a week. I have since, lowered my controlled substance medication from the maximum dose 6mg to 1mg a day. 3. This is just an overall excellent product. Its stronger than the local shop (6$ per shell) and much cheaper to buy this way. The effects kick in pretty quick. IM A NEW LOYAL CUSTOMER :)

This was my 5th time trying Kava. This stuff finally works! The taste is pretty good and for the money its a good deal. It makes you feel mellow and drinking it and listening to music is a fun experience. I recommend trying this for a alternative to drinking alcohol.

I buy from kalm with kava all the time but this batch was hard to swallow and stomach. Not sure why. I’m guessing sometimes this happens and I’m hopeful my next purchase will taste better because I can’t drink this one.

This is top notch kava. I’ve tried many brands of kava with not much results. This one I’ve finally felt it and it’s great, has helped me stay off of alcohol which has improved my life

This is the 3rd type of Kava I have tried since I started drinking Kava about a month and a half ago. I have also tried the micronized pouni ono and the micronized borogu. I would rank these in terms of anxiolytic effects as follows: 1. borogu 2. pouni ono 3. loa waka. Ranked in terms of taste: 1. loa waka 2. pouni ono 3. borogu. The loa waka strain had a very mild effect on me. I did get some lip and mouth numbing, but not much of an anxiolytic effect. None of those kavas are supposed to sedate you, and I found that true for both the loa waka and the pouni ono. The borogu knocked me out for whatever reason. Interestingly, I felt a little wired (like I had a small cup of week coffee) after drinking the loa waka. The loa waka definitely is the best tasting and had the best texture of the three. Even though I didn't receive the desired effects, it was a high quality product. I've been happy with the quality of Kalm with Kava products.

How am I supposed to rate for flavor? This stuff tastes less terrible than others? It’s supposed to taste bad, right? Really, though, I enjoy this more than the Tonga Pouni Ono (I think that’s right?). Better relaxation. I whisk it into a glass of almond milk to reduce the bitterness. This is my fave. I just wish these guys could keep it in stock.
