I’ve had SEVERE sleep disorders since I was a toddler, possibly even as a baby,, and even with the help of some pretty strong prescription strength meds, nothing works likes this does. In combination with 1 prescribed sleeping pill, 3 of these, and 1 5HTP, I tend to fall asleep fast, and most nights I can get a few hours sleep before waking up. I can at least still go back to sleep shortly after though. With just prescribed meds, that’s not about to happen. First it would take me anywhere from 45 minutes to hours just to fall asleep, and if I were to wake, I’d be up for the rest of the night, or it could be hours before falling back asleep, mainly from exhaustion. I’ve tried other brands and not had the same result. I’ve also tried the time release and not had much luck with those either. If taking this, I would highly recommend taking it as I do, with 1 5HTP 500 mg, by Nutricost. Obviously check with your Dr. to make sure this is safe for you, and come up with a treatment plan with them. Do NOT start out at such a high dose, be in bed within 10-15 minutes after taking, and I wouldn’t suggest taking these during the day for anxiety, as some brands suggest. No heavy machinery, etc. You know the drill! 😉

I've been having trouble sleeping. Been on multiple sleep aids. I decided to go natural. Valerian root was on my list for both sleeping and possible lucid dreaming endeavors. Now FIRST OFF - you must be warned - Valerian Root is smelly. It downright reeks. I thought other reviews were exaggerating; NOPE. Room mate could smell it across the room when I opened the bottle and they said "Did you buy bottled horse manure?". This is how valerian root is supposed to smell. If you get past the smell - the effects are WELL WORTH IT. First time, I swallowed two pills as quick as I could. My body felt like a stone statue in bed, and I quickly passed out. I was in such a deep sleep but my dreams were like...I mean...I played an entire 45 minute match of League of Legends in my dream - entire 45 minutes, I remember every minute of it, everything was realistic, interacting with other players, the boring parts of waiting for exciting things to happen in the game, the mechanics of playing it, all precisely as accurate as real life. I haven't done 2 pills since then, just because...I dunno...What if the next dream is like the movie Inception and I'm stuck in it for a year? :P haha. 1 pill great for sleeping for me. Fall asleep fast, dreams are good. Wake up refreshed.

Great supplement! Sometimes life gets so stressful I used to have racing mind and feel anxiety instead of sleeping. I do not want to take anxiety medication or sleeping pills, I prefer using natural supplements to avoid side effects that come with using meds . When I take this supplement I start feeling calmer and just start falling asleep. My favorite part about it is that I do not feel drowsy the next day. That is huge deal to me because zquil Nyquil, and many other medications make me feel useless the next day. I also noticed that the next day I feel less stressed. My husband gets insomnia sometimes and he started taking this supplement sometimes too and noticed it's effects. I also use this supplement when I work late night and have to be back at work the next morning but I feel so mind up that I can't go to sleep. It helps every time. I already purchased multiple bottles after I tried it first time last year. We can't go without it! Highly recommend!

Yes this does have a horrible odor but as bad as it is ...is as good as it works. Because this works so well I decided to eliminate the odor as much as possible. I WOULDN'T BE HINDERED FROM USING IT WHEN NEEDED. I keep the bottle in a zipper pouch and open it in there WITHOUT REMOVING THE BOTTLE.. THE odor permeates anything it touches including your bedding and fingers. So I've made it a no touch process. Don't touch the capsule ...open the bottle in a place where you will NOT be sleeping.. tweezers work well to remove the capsule and place in your mouth. Enjoy a restful sleep.

Valerian neither tastes or smells good, however, it is effective. As a natural sleep aid, two at night help to relax the body and deliver into dream land for a good 6-8 hours. It also is a natural muscle relaxant, but I would not take it during the day or when driving obviously.

But really it should. Valerian is an herb and smells like one....strongly BUT it does work. It's very calming, helps me relax and sleep.

Contains Lead? Seriously? I received the exact same bottle as seen here on Amazon, except now they’ve added a warning that is printed onto my bottle: “This product can expose you to harmful chemicals including Lead, which is known in the state of California to cause cancer and birth defects and other blah blah blah...” The warning was partly covered up by a sticker that was attached to the bottle. I had to peel away the sticker to see the full text of it. I had already taken one, before I saw the label. It did make me feel rather drunk or ‘doped up’, but I am very sensitive to any sedative effects. But it didn’t help me sleep, because in addition to the sedative effect, it also caused me to breath harder, which kept me awake. It felt like the pill was very acidic, which lowered my body’s PH, which then resulted in the accelerated breathing. If it wasn’t for the fact that the pill was so acidic, then I imagine the sedative effect would have made me sleep like a rock. But it’s 3am right now, and instead of sleeping, I’m writing this. That said, I’ll assume that it isn’t the fault of the manufacturer that it’s acidic, so I won’t take off any stars for that. I’ll assume the acidic part is normal for valerian root (after it is metabolized). My plan was to use baking soda to try to counter the acidity. All I needed to do was figure out exactly how much baking soda was needed. But that’s when I checked the label and saw the warning about Lead. So they get 1 star for the fact that my bottle contains a warning about lead, but the picture on amazon is identical in every way EXCEPT it didn’t have that warning, at least not at the time of my purchase. Going to return this and find another more reputable brand that doesn’t have Lead.

These do not make me go to sleep, but when I do fall asleep, I seem to sleep more soundly and wake up more refreshed. I ordered the 500mgs and probably should have ordered the 1000mgs. I have not tried to take 2 yet, but will before giving up on them for fast sleep. They do stink, but not any worse than Omega 3 capsules - just different. Hold your breath and swallow. By the time the cap is back on the bottle, the smell is gone.
