3M Vinyl Tape 471+, Indigo, 3/4 in x 36 yd, 5.3 mil, 1 Roll

If you are here buying 3M 471+ FINE LINE You obviously know what it’s for so there isn’t much I can say that would steer you in the proper direction. And if you don’t know, this is flexible vinyl tape used to mask off designs, etc., for automotive paint work. It’s used for masking flames, stripes, really whatever you need to mask off and leave a very nice edge before clearcoat. Because of the cost, this is not tape that you let the kids use to tape papers together. Get a roll of scotch tape for that.

This tape is awesome. If you are making an epoxy table with wavy edges where epoxy meets slab, you can mask the wood and wet sand the epoxy all you like and the wood stays dry. Does not peel, lift, leak, no matter how wet it gets, holds up to higher grit sandpaper banging into it, and comes off perfectly clean.

Works as it should.

You get what you pay for. Very good adherents and masking as well as clean removal once done. The elasticity allows great flexibility.

Great tape, sticks great. Its just thick enough to handle curves and pretty durable

Works as intended

Used this tape to make white walls on my golf cart tires. It was a game changer! I originally tried regular Frog tape to tape off the rounded tires. That didn't work out well at all; the tape was just to thick to get a good rounded look. I ordered the 1/8 inch tape first, but realized that may be too small, so I got the 1/4 inch tape for the initial taped off area, then I used the bigger Frog tape to tape up the rest of the tire. No leaks at all from the 3M vinyl tape. It had a nice crisp rounded line. The tires turned out great!

Recently I acquired a Challenger Scat Pack that I was debadging and refinishing to a different color. I wanted the car to have a retro look to the finish and painted striping that I was planning on putting under the clear of the paint rather than modern vinyl striping on the clear more common today. I purchased this tape to lay out the lines and crossed my fingers that I would get no bleed through when using solvent reduced base coat paint with it. I turned out amazing. This tape allows you to stretch when forming the radius of the stripe and can be pulled with tension to make a straight line. If surface is clean and using a tack cloth prior to laying tape it will stick nicely and not allow bleed through. Do your prep properly and you will have good results with this tape.
