Dirty Japanese: Everyday Slang (Slang Language Books)

First off, this book is about 90%~ accurate. In the sense that some of the material is dated, but that's expected with any slang book. Slang comes and goes. For the most part though, the author clearly labels some dated slang. The author also points out a lot of Japanese cultural background and other very useful information. I would say this is a very useful book since it does deepen your understanding of Japanese slang and culture.If you're wondering if a particular slang word / phrase is dated, simply ask a Japanese friend. Don't just flame the book. There's no slang book in the world that will be 100% accurate because slang is constantly changing. I'm sure you know a LOT of dated slang in your own language. While they may seem 'useless' they can be awesome for jokes.

Got alot of laughs reading this. Writer has a great sense of humor. And the Japanese is really fun. I'm always using it on my coworkers.

I would recommend this book to anyone who actually wants to go to Japan and be able to speak casually (as opposed to what is taught in college classes) to people at clubs, on the street, etc. Sometimes it's frustrating when you can't learn exactly what you *want* to say, especially if you're wanting to hit on that cute Japanese guy/chick in class and you want to impress them. Even if you're not going to use it, it is very interesting and funny to read. This is for people who already have some knowledge of the Japanese language. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone who isn't familiar with Japanese sentence structure.

I picked this book up on a whim and I cannot believe how crazy it is. It is so much fun just to flip through which, in fact, we were passing around and doing. I would suggest it to anyone that wants an in depth view of the slang and phrase that *ehem* would NOT make the cut in a normal dictionary.This book is definitely not for children. There are sections that cover everything from slang terms, to fighting terms, to the nasty things you want to do to people. Everything a girl needs on her visit to Japan ;)My only problem with it is the fact that some of the phrases in it are a bit outdated. Other than that it is perfect!

"Dirty Japanese" is hilarious! It covers a WIDE array of slang topics in such a tiny book; some chapters are tame while others are so explicit like 'Horny Japanese' that I was embarrassed to actually say some of the phrases. It's a fun, quick read with up-to-date Japanese slang. I had previously bought 'Making out in Japanese' and found the Japanese outdated and the phrases lacking. I really recommend "Dirty Japanese" to anyone that wants a great, comprehensive - and of course DIRTY - Japanese slang guide.

I am loving all the phrases included in this book! I got this as a sort of gag gift for my buddy going to Japan, and needless to say he is all set! This book covers all interesting and "need to know" phrases all from bedroom to bathroom and in between. Great idea if your studying Japanese or planing a trip over, or if you just want to have a good laugh!

I teach Japanese and one my student had this book. Usually, I don't like this kind of books since the content is out of dated or inaccurate (nobody says that!). But this book is pretty up-to-date and accurate! I recommend this book for my students and others who are interested in Japanese language!I myself learned some new terms/slangs from this book! For me, this book is also a great book for learning how to translate Japanese slangs in English!Also, this is a great inexpensive gift!

I am just beginning to learn Japanese, and decided to pick this up so I could not only learn Formal Japanese, but some of the slang as well. And just glancing through this, this is hilarious. Not sure if I would ever use it on anyone (yeah, why not...lol), but I think you may as well have a fuller appreciation of any language by learning the "high-speak" and "low-speak". At the very least, it's a good read for a laugh.

Very Educational. Can't wait to use it in Japan next time.

Whilst it's an excellent system, we couldn't help but feel that , whilst it was teaching us an awful lot, certainly enough to communicate politely, it probably wasn't teaching us much in the way of slang or informal speech.I found this book on Amazon, and it was about a fiver at the time. It's a small, quite thin book, easily small enough to pop into a handbag to use as a quick reference. The book begins with a quick section on how to read the book - a useful section that explains pronunciation, the different styles of Japanese writing, and the fact that the language and phrases in the book are intended for informal conversations with friends, rather than strangers.After this, the book is broken down into 8 chapters : Howdy, friendly, party, body, horny, angry, poppy, sporty and hungry. These are all pretty self explanatory - 'poppy' for example deals with music, hobbies, television, whilst 'body' deals with peeing, pooing, and farting.The book is very light hearted and humorous, and incredibly easy to understand, with each phrase written first in English, then in Romanji, and then in Japanese (either Hiragana, Kanji or Katakana ) Dot's (...) either before or after the words help to indicate where the words should be placed to make a correct sentence.A lot of the phrases are very useful - for example, there are plenty of informal greetings, some handy references to various ailments, descriptions, and ways to ask for seconds of dessert. I particularly found some of the stereotypes interesting - there are words in here for all sections of society, from skaters punks and rockers tight up to a Japanese word to describe those Wag-wannabe blonde , fake nailed, 'Ooompa Loompa' orange kind of girls (Gyaru).I also found the explanation of the literal meaning of certain phrases incredibly amusing. For example, the Japanese phrase 'ari no towatari' for your notyer (the bit of skin that's notyer bum, but notyer vagina either) is apparently a description of ants crawling out of one hole, across a small patch of earth, and into another hole apparently!I used Notyer as an example above, because I think it best illustrates the informality of the book- whilst I might use the proper word, Perineum, whilst talking to my doctor about a health issue, I would sound funny being so formal with friends. In the same way that if I had piles, I'd say anus to the doctor but bumhole to my mates.However, there are some that, whilst highly amusing, I'll probably never use. I'll probably never need to describe the exact sound, smell and feel of my own farts for example, and I very much hope I never have to explain that a sex-predator has felt me up on the subway, or that I want some cheap, greasy sex!Overall, I think this is a highly amusing book that would make a wonderful gift for anybody 18+ that is studying Japanese and wants to learn some of the more informal phrases.I would say about 80 per cent of the phrases included are things I would use myself, whilst the other 20 percent are amusing to know, but perhaps not particularly useful for me.
