Makes a difference
Using this bubble counter lets you see large carbon dioxide bubbles become progressively smaller as they move up the ladder. Plant growth changes, improving, sometimes flourishing. Not all species of plants respond the same' some grow well, some hardly at all. This item can be used with DIY carbon dioxide producers (yeast, sugar) so for just a few dollars any hobbyist who wants to improve their growth of fresh water tropical plants. Their documentation says that this is good for tanks up to 20 gallons, although it also functions well in a 55 gallon sun-lit tank where constant pruning of a couple of hardy species is a regular job.Pros: low cost, can be used with DIY systems, actually improves plant growth, it's cool to see the bubbles get smaller as they rise (approx 1 per sec, depending on state of CO2 producer)cons: limit to how big of a tank it can be used for (they claim 20 gal), sometimes needs to be cleaned of slime/algae

Product works as advertised but it's not exactly stellar at diffusing CO2 into the tank. It'll get you by if you have no other means of diffusing but the bubbles tests I've run on my water while using it didn't come back as having very good results from it. It's adequate. I no longer use it in my tank and bought a powerhead to break up the CO2 bubbles now. This thing just sits in a cabinet.

Give it a day and then it works great
Don't be dismayed if at first it seems like the bubbles are getting built up in certain areas. This is part of the break-in process and it will fix itself. Once some bio-slime (mmmm, bio slime...) gets built up on it, the bubbles go up the ladder smoothly.I'm using mine with a homemade CO2 system and I'm already seeing results. I would recommend "The Ladder" to anyone who is using a DIY method and doesn't have enough pressure to properly utilize a ceramic diffuser. Plus, you don't really need a separate bubble counter to monitor your CO2 output. You can see every bubble that comes out and tailor your CO2 production accordingly.Summary: for the price, seems to work great. Low tech and effective.

It never did what it was suppose to. Bubbles ...
It never did what it was suppose to. Bubbles never went up the ladder. Other reviewers said it took away for it to get acclimated to the aquarium or whatever. I had it for one year or more and maybe saw two bubbles go up the ladder. Positioned it many different ways without success. Don't buy.

Takes some space
Its good, but it takes up a lot of space in a aquarium.

Best CO2 dispenser I had
Over the years I tried several things to inject C02 into my planted fish tank. Direct injection into the canister filter led to gas build up there. Using a diffuser disk - this got clogged after a few months.Had gotten this CO2 ladder in 2016 and I still have it running today after seven years. It needed a month or two to get "primed". Initially the bubbles weren't moving smoothly and getting stuck in some places but this worked itself out. Also the suction cups still work properly after all those years. Make sure to mount exactly horizontally to get the same bubble speed going left and right.

Great for planted tanks, but comes with high maintenance.
This is very useful in the DIY CO2 systems in aquariums. Not too pricey and still allows you to customize your own tank. Definitely gets the job done and when this is paired with the correct water treatments, the plants don't stop growing.PROS:Easy install and useHelps keep DIY CO2 systems cheapEasy to concealCONS:DIY CO2 kits have high variability of outputHave to work on the system constantly

Super way to get CO2 into your tank
After reading the reviews I thought it was going to be a lot of work getting it set up. But I just wiped down the inside glass of the tank, attached the hose to the unit placed it in the tank, saw I placed it in crooked, straigtened it up and hooked it up to my CO2 regulator. dialed in 1.5 bubbles a second and it worked perfectly, initially the bubbles clustered, 5 hours later I had bubbles that smoothly ran through the unit and they were 95% absorbed by the time they made it to the top. Only bad side is my CO2 tank was nearly empty and it gave up the ghost and now I need a refill.
