I've been using these for about a year on the underside of a porch that covers a patio. The birds would build nests in the corner where the deck meets the brick side of the house, and generally perch and poop from various places along the edge. I've slowly been enclosing the whole underside of the deck by mounting these things. So far, they've worked well. There hasn't been any nest building since I installed these, and the pooping has been eliminated on the portions covered by these. They're easy to mount facing up (on a little wooden ledge in my case) with little tacks or push pins through the holes along the bottom; and also easy to cut to size with a pair of wire cutters or something similar.
