I've been trying several options to add some variety to upcoming pre/post-op period where I will be on all liquids (not even mashed potatos or grits!) for over a week. I'm really sensitive to artificial flavors so that has made it a bigger challenge for me. I tried Boost Clear, which I believe has more vitamins in it than Ensure and also has "natural flavors" but the downside was an intense vitamin aftertaste with every sip. A lot of people love it. I do not. I do like the Ensure. Perhaps a bit less vitamins/minerals is good if it makes it more drinkable. For overall nutrition I use Kate Farms (organic and a nutrition bomb) but I can't drink those alone for over a week. Ensure is really sweet but when you are desperate for calories and nutrition, and a bit of variety, it works. I will probably keep it around long term, post surgery, especially during summer months. Easy enough to add a couple ice cubes if you want it less sweet. If you have an elderly family member who needs more vitamins and hydration, ask his/her doctor about this. It was on the list recommended by my surgeon for 'clear fluids'. It is NOT sugar free, just to be clear. OH and, LOL, to the people worried about the red color, it IS clear. Unless your doctor said colorless, as in water, this IS a clear, ie thin & see thru, product. "Clear" is not necessarily colorless and it isn't going to be red all the way thru your digestive system so if your own doctor recommended it don't worry about the red color.

Really nice, easy-on-the-tummy nutritional drink for people with sensitive stomachs. I tried these for the first time when I was admitted to the hospital a couple months ago, the staff noticed I was struggling to finish my meals and started giving me these twice a day. Absolutely love them. The price IS a bit steep, but worth it in my opinion. I think there's another review describing them as tasting a bit like a thicker Kool aid or fruit punch and I have to agree with that description. The apple flavor doesnt taste too far off from regular apple juice so thats a nice option too. I have learned NOT to shake them or else they get frothy at the top lol, and that is apparently from the protein in them. Definitely a good way to get some extra calories, protein and nutrients on days when I'm struggling with food.
