Essential Urdu Dictionary (Learn Urdu) (Teach Yourself)

Very helpful book

It’s great for English speakers learning urdu and urdu alphabet. Mostly a literal dictionary with a lot of vocabulary. I use it to find words starting with the letter of the alphabet that I’m practicing. However, a lot of the words are not used spoken and just found in literature. Still good practice.

Great little book. The only reason it is receiving 4 stars is because it doesn't include the amount of synonyms I had hoped for. But still a handy too. especially when looking for a quick word. Much easier to use than larger English/Urdu dictionaries as there are no long definitions to confuse you when you begin learning. I would recommend to anyone looking for a quick reference book to keep handy.

I ordered this book to be able to learn Urdu from my mother in law and slowly but surely came to find out that many of the translations here are in Pujabi, rather than urdu. It is nonetheless extremely helpful, but dialect does say a lot in Desi cultures, I think this should be strongly applied to the description of the book.

For a beginner lot of words are given in independent form of the characters. Becomes easy to read and write and thus along with strengthen the learning of characters. Also the meaning in English is a great help. Words are more from daily use so with Hindi background they are very familiar. Excellent dictionary and a learning book at the same time. Will help tremendously in learning a new beautiful language.

This little dictionary is awesome supplement in my Urdu studies. It is small enough to carry around in your book bag but big enough to read the Urdu script comfortably. I love the example sentences in this book and I love the vocab charts! The book also marks vocab that is only used in media/newspapers and not in real life conversations! This is a really wonderful learners dictionary. I have the Hindi one in this series and I love it as well. Teach Yourself, please make more Hindi/Urdu learning materials and please make some for other South Asian languages too! I just love your products so much!

Well organized and such a useful book .

It's the best which is available. I checked severel. It makes no odds if u can't read the urdu letters because it's written in transkription too. Dieses Buch eignet sich für alle, die sich einen Basiswortschatz aufbauen möchten oder aber ihre Kenntnisse auffrischen möchten. Es ist ein ideales Geschenk für alle, die in Deutschland groß geworden sind, aber die 2. Muttersprache nicht optimal beherrschen.

I have always had broken urdu & seem to middle up my urdu & Punjabi. This clear & concise book covers all the most used urdu temrminolgy & best thing about it It's well constructed & organised in an easy to learm fashion. I would highly recommend this to anyone who wants to learn Urdu or would like to brush up on their urdu.

Even if it is a double dictionary....you should've atleast added more words to it, because it only contains basic level words.

I have many Urdu dictionary but this one is the best. It has a lot of examples so straight a way you can learn new useful sentences. Only small minus for 3 pages with body parts, time.... it is lame not enough information better if that part wouldn't be there or be bigger (more useful one) Still in my opinion for start this is the best position now.
