Worth the money
We had a customer who bought a fiberglass free standing tub. When we opened it, the tub came with flexible tube that connected to the tub. I did not want to depend on a slip compression joint to hold back any water. So I bought this hoping it would make my life easier. Install was easy. Breaking the tab to get to drain was a little nerve wracking. I had read a lot of reviews that said it broke off, couldn't remove, damaged gasket. I took my time. I used lineman pliers to get it out. I just went slow and wiggled for about 1 minute and it snapped right out. I did have a few little pieces aroind the edge that I thought could damage the gasket. I took my utility knife and just scraped those off. Put the included drain tail piece on the tub, put the plumbers grease on the pipe and slid the tub down. It worked great! Totally worth the money if you cannot access the plumbing from below. I will buy this again.

Recommended to anyone installing a free standing tub.
This kit was pretty pricey but if you are putting in a free standing tub this thing is amazing and so simple to use. Just figure out where your drain will be, cut a six inch round hole in the sub-floor and screw this to the sub-floor. Put in your flooring material (in my case, cement board and tile). Hook up your drain lines underneath and you are ready to install the tub. With one person helping, we attached the tub tailpiece, lifted the tub up and slid the tailpiece into the drain. The kit is funnel shaped so it guided the tailpiece and tub right in place. The beautiful thing is that if I ever need to take the tub out for any reason there is no reason to tear out the ceiling below to unhook anything, the tub just lifts right out and can be put right back in. Everything was included. The drain kit, solid brass tailpiece and all the connectors and adapters necessary to hook this to my PVC drain lines. I'd definitely buy this again and recommend it to anyone installing a freestanding tub.

I hate freestanding tubs!
As a professional plumber with 25 years experience I cannot wait until the freestanding tub fad ends. They're impractical, inefficient and just plain annoying. The only thing securing most of them to the floor is crap ton of caulk. Please stop using them!! That being said, as long as they're around, this is the drain I'll use. It installs easily, it's never failed me yet and I can test it on the rough-in. Other companies make some that look similar but almost always have test plugs that are broken. Please stop with the freestanding tubs!

Well built, and less expensive than others
I learned about these freestanding tub (sometimes called Island) drains from the Jacuzzi brand. This does the exact same thing. It comes with the brass insert and base, but you will need to come up with your own P-trap. It was hard to find the right step down adapter to go from this to my pvc, but Lowes came through. It takes some time to get everything lined up and your mounting board cut and placed in the subfloor, so allow yourself plenty of time. I picked this unglamorous photo because it might be helpful to see what is happening under the floor. The blue thing is a protective lid to keep construction debris out of the drain. Be careful not to step on that while working. The mount is a little oblong shaped to allow mounting nearer a wall. Fair price for this product.

Madeinstallation off tub easy
If you are installing an acrylic or similar tub, this product, although a bit pricey, can really help. The tricky part about tubs is the connection of the drain that goes into the floor. How can you easily connect the drain to the pvc plumbing under the tub without having access from below? The product allows you to simply drop the tub into the floor without gluing the tub downspout. Just look on YouTube for video. Just make certain that the product is mounted flush to the floor and is generally plumb. Attach the metal foot long drain pipe to the tub. Grease the pipe and drop into the product. Since the tub is light, two people can easily do this... even one person if you are handy. Comes with some adapters too, in case you are dealing with 1-1/2 or 2 inch pipe.

Great product and problem solver
Really helped with installing a freestanding tub on a 2nd floor bathroom. The best part was I didn't have to rip open the ceiling down below to install/connect trap. Install trap and rough in unit from above and the cost savings of buying the rough in unit is offset by not needing to patch up and paint ceiling down below. Will buy again!
