Great performance for large projects, but reliability quirks to consider
Good drive overall, but not without a few frustrations. Performance is solid and it handles large files well, which is why I use it as my main drive for projects. Build quality also feels strong and durable, so it holds up well for regular use. The main issue I have had is occasional dropouts. It does not happen constantly, but when it does it can be frustrating, especially if you are actively working on projects. I have seen suggestions online about updating the firmware to fix this, but that process wipes the drive. If you are already using most of the storage, that is not a realistic option without having another drive to move everything onto first. Another thing to consider is the price. It is very expensive, especially for higher capacities like 4TB, so it is definitely an investment. Despite that, it still works well overall and I continue to use it as my main drive. It is just something to be aware of depending on your workflow. Overall, a fast and well built SSD, but with a few reliability quirks and a high price point to consider.

I might never go back to spinning disks
UPDATE: 1 month into ownership, I'm still very happy with the drive. However, it's randomly started to disconnect from my computer. I have a 1TB version of the exact same drive (that I use in a far more intense manner) plugged in right next to it for hours--this 4TB drive I only use for Time Machine backups. As the Romans said: caveat emptor! This little solid-state NVMe drive just blew me away once I plugged it in and started putting things on it. I honestly never even considered that a simple hard drive would be able to do that! This device is the data-heavy user-on-the-go's ultimate dream. No more do I have to lug around a laptop or find clunky (and difficult to use) cloud storage solutions when I want to travel with a big amount of data (think CLI and IDE cached files). Connecting to this is a breeze, and it's been simple to format them with all of the MacOS Sonoma's available file systems (albeit I've only tried with the various APFS versions). Data transfer speeds are next level, compared to my brand new (but old tech) spinning disk HDDs. I actually initially bought a 1TB drive, then immediately (same day) bought the 4TB version after using it for only a few minutes. I was able to back up my entire laptop using Time Machine and used space of ~1.3 TB (i.e. first-time backup) in less time than it took me to make and eat lunch. I wish I had timed it. Alternatively, my now-secondary Time Machine spinning disk HDD is still plugging away at an interval snapshot update nearly 2 hours after plugging it in. Honestly, I might never go back to spinning disks again. This thing fits in your pocket or book bag or wherever! The one drawback is that I've accidentally misplaced it a couple of times already just because it's so dang small.

Best portable SSD on the market right now
I have about ten of these in my kit and for the money they are best portable SSD you can get. Light, good value, fast, water resistant and shock resistant. I am backing up and processing UHD material pretty much everyday and they haven't failed yet. I have the regular extreme rather than the pro because the 2000 Mb/s is overkill and a waste of money. Most computers have a max internal BUS of 1050MB/s and most camera cards max out at 550MB/s so you will pretty much never use 2000Mb/s - you can only move data as fast as the slowest link in the chain, usually the memory card. I can plug the 1050MB/s into cameras that allow it and easily shoot 6K footage straight to the SSD. The only advantage the PRO version has is that the orange parts are metal, not plastic and acts as a heat sink. These drives do get very hot so make sure they have plenty of cooling when used under load. However save yourself £200 and get the regular version. There are really only two choices in the portable SSD NVMe and that is the Samsung T7 and the Sandisk Extreme. Sandisk win the build quality and ruggedness hands down so yes, go extreme. 2022-06-24 Be wary because I think some sellers are selling dodgy products. I have bought many of these but I just took delivery of three 2TB 520 MB/s versions. I've bought so many of these drives over the last couple of years usually from Amazon direct and it's been fine. One was only being 60 MB/s, another 134 MB/s, last one 800 MB/s. They're rated at 520 MB/s???

NOT AS RELIABLE AS I WOULD HAVE HOPED.1 of 6 fails occasionally and has to be reformatted.
I've bought 6 of theses and one fails occassionally and has to be reformatted. NOT AS RELIABLE AS I WOULD HAVE HOPED.

Great drive, but was missing the adapter
Great drive, but was missing the adapter. Amazon were good enough to refund money so I could buy one though. Happy with the drive.

Good, but...
This is a good piece of kit - it's reasonably fast in a compact and rugged package. However, the £550+ price tag (when I bought it) is hard to justify considering that there are faster drives at similar or even cheaper price. It makes for a very odd offering where by it's not cheap and it's not a performer either. If you want a cheap 8TB SSD drive, I would recommend the Crucial X10 which is both cheaper and has double the transfer speeds. If you need really fast storage I would recommend the Thunderbolt5 OWC Express 1M2 or the Envoy Ultra. The SanDisk is just not fast enough and somewhat overpriced...
