.com On a crystal clear English summer's evening in 2001, Norman Cook played a celebrated DJ set in front of an estimated 30,000 loved-up Brightonians, generating two hours of typically hedonistic party mayhem. It's these two hours--or, at least, an edited version of them--that make up Cook's first mix album in ages and a perfect souvenir of the night now known as "Normstock." Soundwise, the album sees Senor Fatboy doing what he does best--mashing up thumping dance floor favorites with a sweat-drenched party panache. Those expecting classic big beat belters are in for a shock, though, since Mr. Slim is more into straight-up house and techno these days--albeit with a party twist. So, we get some of 2001's biggest records--Basement Jaxx's "Where's Your Head At?," Raven Maze's "The Real Life," a couple from Santos--alongside a smattering of classics (Leftfield's "Phat Planet," an anthemic version of Underworld's "Born Slippy") and the off Fatboy number to keep the regulars happy. The result is a hot, sweaty, grimy mix that captures the sound and feel of Norman Cook's DJ sets, even if it does feel a touch out of date. --Matt Anniss

An incredible album
I don't know why this isn't more widely available, but this album is amazing. The CD is from a live concert, and its a journey that you must experience from beginning to end, without skipping around. The album I received was in perfect condition so I've had no problem listening to it over and over and over and over and over. It's a great album to listen to while running. This was what I listened to while training for my last two marathons. Now, I've let myself go, and I can barely run two miles, but I still enjoy this music. I listen to it on long car rides instead. It's fantastic!

Faithful recording of the actual event
I was there on the beach that night. I listen to the album often and it brings it all back. The CD is a faithful recording of the way the evening went, even including the police announcements in the middle telling people to get out of the water (it's a shame the CD can't show Fatboy Slim's written messages on the big screen telling everyone to ignore the police). The audio is excellent quality, not much crowd noise audible over the music. It was a brilliant and varied set with tonnes of energy. The tracks are properly mixed, so skipping tracks ruins the rhythm. Listen to it start to finish!

Really awesome, great CD
I bought this CD 5 months ago in an impulse. I just saw it on the shelf, and since I had recently started to love electronic music and had heard so much about Fatboy Slim,, I decided to buy it and try out my musical interest. The first impression I had wasn't a very good one, but that was before I actually developped my love for electronic music. However, after some days, some songs started to make me move, and i realised that the CD was awesome. The beginning is excellent, with the hybrid Born Slippy/Right here, Right now, which is the perfect opening for this kind of CD, it gives you the impression that you should get ready. Then follows Austin's Groove which is one of my favorites, among The Groovy Thang, The Real Life (I love that one) and Where's your head at?. I would have taken some songs out of the list, but none of them are bad at all; it simply makes perfect harmony. I think that the moment after Where's your head at? where the police start chasing people off the water should have taken out, and i would also complain about the pops and clicks in the CD, but that's because it's a live recording off vynil and can't be avoided. I seriously recommend this CD, because I don't regret at all having bought it, and it's always on top of my CD stack.

"Great live gig"
Now this is how a live recording should be. None of that compilation-from-different-performances bull - but just one night, one set and 30,000 people, with all the perfections and mistakes. Many know that Fatboy Slim is up there with Radiohead, U2 and System of a Down in terms of great live gigs, but unlike most of his performances, his appearance at Bright Beach saw him, uncharacteristically, playing not only favorites like "Star 69" and "Sunset (Bird Of Prey), but some Norman Cook's favorite techno tunes from the `90s, including his renditions of tracks by Basement Jaxx, Santos, Underworld, Letfield and Raven Maize amongst others. Opening with a shortened, slower version of the Trainspotting classic "Born Slippy", the album kicks into full gear with a more upbeat rendering of the DJ's own "Right Here Right Now" that obviously got the crowd going quite a bit. Cook proceeds to perform a similar act throughout the rest of the album, redefining celebrated DJs' greatest hits in his own innovative way. There really isn't much of a track definition in terms of different tunes, with numerous songs overlapping each other. Notably, a tune like "Where's Your Head At?" is listed on the back as being track eight, but can be heard more evidently on track's seven and nine, making the CD more suited to a party situation rather than you just sitting at home with your headphones on. If you're a fan of Fatboy Slim - and we don't mean You've Come A Long Way Baby - then you'll surely find some great aspects in this live recording. If you're only preference to the DJ is "Rockefeller Skank" then we recommend that you stick to listening to J-Lo.

Fatboy Slim House Mix.
Smart house set containing some of the smash-hits of past decades, like Born Slippy, Where's Your Head At and Leftfield. Neatly mixed, pumping, good tempo, funny twists of action and invocations.

Good House and Great Mixes
Excellent live set from the Fatboy, with a millennial flavour. Yes, we are now a long way from the summer of 2001, but if you're more interested in good house and great mixes than you are in fashion, then this is a must have.
