On balance it's pretty secure, but it won't stop any determined thief from climbing over or breaking through. It will make it very convenient to let people in and track who comes and goes when as it holds a log (give people different codes) it also acts as a deterrent to casual opportunistic thieves . If you live in a high crime area I would have this as part of a multilayered security approach. It's nice to be able to go out without keys and know you can still get round the back.
