You can do this yourself.
Works and sounds great but what sets it apart for me was how easy it was to gut all my electronics and route these two new pickups. Never did this before in my life but the instructions that come with it, have many different diagrams to match how many knobs or switches you have on the guitar. Once you find the right schematic, just take your time and have the right tools and it takes about 45 mins. I watched videos also before I did it. EMG has their own videos to help you. I did this on a brand new ESP guitar so I was nervous. But it was stupid easy. Make sure the strings are as close as they can be without hitting the pickups when fretting the final frets and when palm muting. You may also have to add some wedge underneath a pickup to keep them level. The cavity bore where the pickups go into may be larger for the passives than the actives. Also keep in mind that you have to place a battery inside. But dont worry, I cant imagine my particular ESP could have been any smaller and I fit everything in nice and snug. You will love the thicker rhythm tone from the 85 but love the high gain tone from the 81. I use about 30% 81 and 70% 85. You can also play around with different pickup clearances to where you can add more volume, but lower the clearance. I keep my bridge pickup closer than my neck pickup, to the strings. Your palm muting chunks sound mighty. I use a drop A tuning with 13/17/26/36/46/60s D'Addarios. Everything is perfect.
