Home or Professional Use
Working in the fast-food industry, “prep” was a daily job. From sauces, to meat, to cheese, to just about EVERY food item that was used – they had to have dates. One place I worked at used ROX (as shown in the picture): Received Open eXpires Very self-explanatory. Only these were used for the HUGE gallon size sauces: butter garlic, barbeque, hot sauce. The R date was the date the item arrived at the store, usually from the corporate office’s “commissary” truck. The O was the date it opened. The X – when it expired. Not the date that was listed on the bottle, the amount of time allowed from open to “possible” spoilage. Usually that was a month. Though we didn’t have stickers like this. I wish we did. We had to write on the side with a Sharpie. Sometimes that got messy and the ink would smudge. While not major to some – we could’ve gotten in trouble for it. Typically found (hot sauce) (like seen on picture): R – 12/25/2021 O – 1/05 (we’d know it was 2022 right off) X – 2/05 (despite the bottle read an “expired” date of 12/31/2022) Actual “mileage” would vary. Usually, the hot sauce was gone WAY before that. For the price, this is definitely a LOT of labels for home use, but worth it if you’re a bulk-buying and food prepper. I have come to rely on these stickers with leftovers as well.
