This CD is a superlative collection of his s made for Arhoolie in 1964 and 1966, including the great You Gotta Move, later recorded by the Stones. *- the Grove Press Guide to the Blues on CD. Review ------ McDowell first recorded in 1959, when folklorist Alan Lomax discovered him during a field trip. Five years later the sixty- year-old northern Mississippian was taped performing in his living room by Arhoolie's Chris Strachwitz. The results are outstanding: McDowell's commanding singing and slide guitar commentaries, tied to clear thinking and acute feeling, refashion traditional fare into entirely personal folk music.
