As far as I know, black mustard should be the hottest, but this has 0 heat. Dull flavor. No smell. Decent quality. It doesn't seem stale. It's a small jar for the cost. It is the size of about a 3" cube. Still works in mingling water and oil. In fact, it has only faint seedy dirt taste, so it could be used as a medium for an oil water marriage without adding much flavor. Good for somebody, but not for my Nightshade allergy replacement needs.

The grounded black mustard seed is a favorite. I use in a particular dish, the bag, packed full, and it is resealable. Thank you!

Products like this typically have two safety indicators that the item has not been tampered with. 1) a plastic wrap around the screw on lid. 3) under the cap, a paper that is glued to the lip of the bottle. I received a bottle with no plastic wrap and the under cap paper was not secure. I told Amazon and the package was replaced. The replacement did not have a cap wrap but the under cap paper was secure. As for the product contents, in the replacement package they were great. I discarded the first package.

I am very happy with this fresh ground black mustard seed powder. I am putting it in capsules and taking it for joint pain.

It was a bigger bottle than i thought. Bought it for my mom, she loves it, it's a bit too dark/bitter for me but it's good the mustard flavor is very strong and really pops out on the tongue

This review is for the ground organic black mustard seed. Some of the other reviews here are for other products, which no doubt has to do with the way the product page is set up. I like to make my own mustards, experimenting with different ingredients, and I prefer a hot mustard. This black mustard is not so much hot as it is bitter. I tried it in various combinations, by itself, cut with other mustards, using different other ingredients, different liquids, spices, seasonings, etc. Either I ended up with a bitter and unpleasant tasting mustard, or something in which the flavor of this black mustard was hidden by other things. Maybe there is some good use for it, but I haven't found it. Maybe I got a bad batch. In any case, I used about half of this before giving up and throwing away the rest.

Serves the purpose in cooking.
