Handy vent option for a narrow soffit area
Purchased two packages of these to make vents in the soffit of a storage building I'm in the process of insulating and equipping with HVAC. I had considered using conventional soffit vents like you would find on a residence - the rectangular ones with louvers and screening. However, after looking more at the area, realized these would work better and provide better air flow.Installation was pretty easy. Using a hole saw mounted in my cordless drill, I drilled 2" holes where I wanted vents, which was between each of my rafters. I then inserted the plug into the hole by hand, and tapped into place with a rubber mallet. The plugs get slightly larger towards the louvered end, so they do fit well with friction. The plugs do not have screening installed, but the spacing between the louvers is sufficiently narrow, I don't see much of anything getting into these. The louvers are finished in a flat white finish, which appears like it'll take paint to match the building with no problem. I'm pretty happy with this solution, since it isn't so massive as the standard residential vents, plus it's much easier to cut 2" holes in a 5" wide soffit than it is to cut rectangular holes without making a mess. The finished product looks tidy, and from what I can tell, they do provide good air flow when used in sufficient quantities.
