New in paperback, this book presents Dieter Rams' aesthetic philosophy through highlights from a forty-year career designing iconic consumer products that enhance our daily lives. For decades, anyone who cared about product design looked to the Braun label when choosing their appliances, radios, and other consumer items. Dieter Rams, the guiding force behind the Braun look, breaks down his design principles and processes in this elegant new paperback edition. Enumerating each of his ten principles such as "good design is innovative"; "good design is aesthetic"; "good design is useful", etc., this bestselling book presents one hundred items that embody these guidelines. Taken together, the images and texts offer the most comprehensive overview of Dieter Rams' work to date and will serve as both a reference and an inspiration for anyone interested in how and why good design matters. 54 pages of significant text, the rest is photographs. Not much detail
I'm a product designer and admire Mr. Rams. I thought this book was an in-depth look at his design theory. In actuallity it is a coffee table book full of photographs. Only 1/8 of the book has any significant text and the font is very large and has excessive line spacing. In other words, there is not much discussion here. It is mostly a picture book showing his designs. I should add that many are not so "timeless" and many look like relics from the 60's -70's. The chapter "One Hundred Products in Detail" has almost zero details - just one or two photos. So if you want a coffee table book with plenty of pictures, this is a good one. If you want to learn about Mr. Rams design theory, then this book is lacking. Look elsewhere. Had the book been named "A Tour of Dieter Rams Designs" I would have expected what this book actually is.

Im still reading. So far, pretty good.
I've recently taken an interest in set design. I never knew of Dieter prior to reading, but I have come to find out he is the biggest inspiration behind a lot of products we use today. I dig his philosophy on design being simplistic, and consonant with nature. Good read if you may be interested in designing anything!

Banged up corners
I was very disappointed to see both books banged up at the corners since they weren’t securely wrapped. Since these are expensive books, I expect expected more from the delivery and the packaging quality.

Not what I expected
I bought this book because I need to use it for research, but the content is more like a coffee table book. I wished the material could explain more details on the principles.

Still good advice, but a bit dated
This is overall a very good book and its now part of the annals of design history. The "rules" for good design can feel a bit dated and not applicable to every situation and context, but still an amazing source of knowledge and inspiration.
