Made modifications.....
Thanks to our current society with lurking vagrants (thanks politicians!) I purchased two for my two alley gates. Installation went well. My width was 2 ¼ inches and the hardware provided worked great. Really like the idea of the mechanical operation and no batteries to worry about. One of the mechanisms did not work! Rather than return it, I dug into it and found that one of the locking cams was installed backwards. I did make my own “Latch Buckles” out of aluminum because the ones provided just seem too wimpy. This is no Fort Knox lock, but they should help deter the continual California tramps looking for crime.

Great for exterior gates! no batteries needed
This was a great option for my city-property gates. Because of the way my gates were built, I had to have a carpenter do some cutting out of the back-stop and shimming to get them installed and aligned properly. They work great. I left the presser bar latch on the gates, so you have to also release that after turning the latch. The latch does not spring close, so you can do one, then the other and open the gate with one hand. You can flip-close the latch from either side and once you do that it re-sets the need to enter the code. When the latch is open it will stay open if you want to keep it unlocked also. My tenants and gardener love these easy-access, easy-to-flip latches because they are reliable and don't need electricity/batteries or key for a pin-coded gate system. For them, it's security that's no-hassle. We've been using them for about 6 months now, through cold, rain, etc. They feel very sturdy and the bolt/throw looks like steel, so I don't expect it to rust.

Very poor instructions....should of removed the instructions from the item....useless
The lock has 2 spindles furnished and no mention of their purpose. Do you use both spindles or ONE? I have installed many locks on doors and this installation is a problem or return. So much movement in the spindles if you use only 1 spindles connecting the key pad to the inner turn knob. If you use the 2 spindles, then you fit the key pad hole but the inner knob will only accept one of the spindles. Why aren't both the key pad and inner knob have the SAME dimensions for the spindle hole? The keypad side will accept 2 spindles but the inner knob side will only accept ONE SPINDLE???I have installed many locksets before with a square spindles on both sides of the door.....this lockset is different and will accept 2 spindles on the key side and only ONE SPINDLE ON THE INNER KNOB SIDE.....Terrible instructions and design. The combination doesn't have to be sequential meaning if your combination is 1234, as long as 1234 is pressed in any order the lock will open. What happens when the numbers wear on the keypad....pressing the worn 4 numbers will open the keypad in any order.I WILL BE RETURNING THIS LOCKSET TO AMAZON......CHINESE GARBAGE and lousy instructions and design.

Pretty junky
They are functional but you really have to work it to get the bolt to open after entering the code from the outside. I'd buy something different next time.

Great fence lock.
A little tricky to install, but a great lock. Works well with a vinyl fence gate. Seems to withstand weather very well.

Not Waterproof; Rusty Funky Screws
This lock was installed a few months ago in a coastal environment. The front unit seems be holding up to the weather so far, but the back unit is already starting to fail. Worse, the screws and metal lock bar are showing significant signs of rust. If this unit was truly waterproof as advertised, all of these parts would have been protected from water incursion and/or made from stainless steel, which these clearly are not. You also have to be extremely careful shortening the breakaway portions of these funky screws, or too much breaks off. To make this work, I am now forced to spend time looking for 10-32 stainless steel socket head screws that are 2.25" long. For how much this "waterproof" unit cost, I was expecting a higher quality, more durable product.
