Bacher Flattening Stone for Whetstones - Coarse 220 Grit, Levels 100-8000

A great bit of kit to add to my sharpening station. Made light work of my Japanese waterstones; 2,000, 5,000, 8,000 grit. Highly recommended.

I got into using Japanese wetstones some years ago in my 50s. Frankly, these are skills you should learn at school! Every other knife sharpening technique and tool seems such a waste of time, effort and money once you have mastered the - really quite relaxing - technique. My stones though are always getting worn and dippy, so I occasionally dry them and flatten them out with sandpaper or wet&dry paper on a flat surface. It works, but it's messy and slow. I saw a few 'Meh!' reviews about this stone flattening tool, so to balance things up a bit I have to say I'm blown away by this inexpensive, fast and effective tool. A really big surprise. Frankly one of these will probably outlast me. It's one of those tools that I wish I'd bought years ago and I would recommend to anyone who appreciates a sharp blade. A really fast way to get a dead flat wetstone. JM.

My sharpening stones were getting worn unevenly, and this was causing issues when sharpening my plane blades. I kept looking at these flattening stones, some are really expensive. Due to the price I took the plunge, and I have to say it did a cracking job, made me realise just how out of flat my stones were. I flattened a 1000, 2000 and 3000 grit stone. Takes a bit of effort but worth it.

Does what it should, flattens my whetstones. Remember the 3 stone process to ensure flatness.

Works well but don’t assume it’ll be a quick job. The more you’ve used your stones the longer it’ll take to flatten them. Amazing how uneven they get and took me a gold 20 minutes to flatten one side. Will be doing it regularly in future and I’m sure will be much quicker.

Essential for keeping your sharpening stone flat, this does the job really well, came next day via Prime and looks like it will last for years - excellent value and performs exactly as expected

Good quality in flatness with no sharp edges or protuberances. Works well. It arrived in good order and well protected.

The stone wore pretty quickly the grooves at one end are almost worn flat only had a couple of hours use

Es una piedra que necesitaba para poder mantener mis piedras de afilar de forma uniforme. Cuando una piedra de afilar no se aplana, se crean valles, marcas, huecos o peores cosas. Eso siendo en el peor de los casos, claro. Y para afilar se necesita una piedra lisa para que tú puedas trabajar con el cuchillo y la piedra de afilar a tu favor, y no lo contrario. Esta piedra de aplanar me ha ayudado en ese proceso, quitándole todas las imperfecciones de la superficie. Incluso llegué a quitarle la suciedad superficial de la piedra de afilar, y quedó como la primera vez que la usé. Las veces que afilé con ella después de aplanar se nota el cambio. Solo un aspecto a tener en cuenta: es una piedra de aplanar, tendrás que trabajar y frotar la piedra de afilar con algo de fuerza. Es lo poco que se puede pedir de este producto: usarlo adecuadamente.

Demande un peu d'huile de coude, mais fonctionne très bien
