Good Budget Futon Mattress with Strong Support, but Better for Sleeping Than Sitting
This 8 inch encased coil futon mattress is generally well-liked for its comfort when used as a bed. The individually wrapped coils help with pressure relief and support, so it tends to feel more like a hybrid mattress than a basic futon pad. Many users say it sleeps comfortably and gives better support than expected for the price, especially compared to foam-only options. In real use, it works best as a sleeping surface rather than a couch-style futon because itโs fairly thick and firm, so it doesnโt always bend easily on folding frames. It can feel a bit heavy to move around, but that same density is what gives it its supportive, longer-lasting feel. Itโs also known for being a strong value option with decent durability, making it a solid choice if the main goal is comfortable sleep or guest use rather than frequent folding into a sofa

Great for the price
When it comes right down to it this is a pretty low cost mattress. That said it is pretty comfy, it's not perfect for me, but it is *significantly* better than any other futon mattresses I've had thus far. It's pretty firm but still has enough give that you don't get sore sitting on it. It seems to tolerate one person sitting on one spot day after day every night for weeks on end without that spot losing shape. It did smell a little fresh out of the bag, but I let it fluff up in my truck bed with the windows on the topper open (used the plastic it came with on the bottom to keep it clean, the truck is pretty clean but I'd still recommend you do this if you do the truck thing, because even the cleanest truck probably has some dirt) Put it in there the night it came, flipped it the following morning and then took it out that afternoon, 90% of the smell was gone by this point and the truck didn't smell either. Took it inside and plopped it on the futon, the smell was little enough that I could have slept on it if I wanted, I decided not to for that night, by the next morning the smell was barely even there if you stuck your face into it. A few weeks later and now it's entirely gone. Only cons are that it's a little hard to fold into couch form, also it tends to slide around even with some anti-sliding stuff on the futon that seemed to work well enough with my old mattress (which has now been made into two big archery targets.) It's not bad for me because the futon is against a wall anyway so I tended to just leave it in "Bed mode" with one of those big arm pillows against the wall and sit that way anyway. I did fold it a few times for when I had some friends over though and it was a bit of an adventure, so if you convert it back and forth a lot keep that in mind. Overall quite good, and the price was right.

Cheap, Comfy, Looks Good... What More Can You Ask For?
Ordered this to replace an old standard cotton futon. It arrived in a giant compressed tube, which was fairly easy to open -- I followed others' advice and cut it open, which worked great. Laid it out on the flat futon frame and it fluffed up pretty quickly -- no noticeable smell. It is nice and thick, a little sproingy, which takes some getting used to since I am used to having just a cotton futon (with zero sproing). Put a very nice 3" thick memory foam topper on it and I think it will be perfect for guests, which is what it's intended for. It does seem a little shorter than the other mattress, but not terribly so. Full size sheets fit just fine. It seems quite comfortable and supportive. I think it'll be perfect for occasional use -- I just keep it flat all the time, so can't speak for folding it.

Nice Mattress for a Futon
I bought this mattress for the futon in my art studio. It replaced an old futon mattress that felt like a garbage bag full of rags. I use it to sit on when I take a break and for an occasional nap. It will also be used as a guest bed. I have to say that it is very comfortable. That being said, I wouldnโt use it as an every day mattress as it is a bit stiff and does not provide the support of a real mattress. It came packaged neatly, all I had to do was carefully cut open the plastic bag and poof instant mattress. The mattress expanded to 8โ right away and did have a slight odor, though nothing bothersome, which dissipated after about a week. I chose the cobalt blue which looks great in my room. The microfiber cover is nice-n-cozy and is well made, though I was surprised the back has cheap black fabric on it. As a futon, it folded into the couch position just fine and popped right back into a flat mattress shape with no issues. It is heavy and cumbersome so unless you are Hercules, youโre gonna need help moving this mattress around. I put one of those grippy pads that you put in your drawers under the mattress so it doesnโt slide off the futon. Overall...I highly recommend this for anyone looking for a comfy nice-looking futon mattress.

... what a traditional futon mattress is supposed to feel like, and this really isn't it
I am familiar with what a traditional futon mattress is supposed to feel like, and this really isn't it. But then again, a traditional futon mattress doesn't have coils. That being said, laying on this product feels like your standard coil mattress, and yes, it is fairly firm. I bought a full-size after 5 months of sleeping on a less than a quarter inch mattress pad on the ground, so it's like heaven. It comes tightly rolled in a tall cardboard box, and if you can't lift 60+ lbs I'd suggest you either use a furniture mover or get someone to help you carry it. The box itself is Herculean, so if you don't have the hand strength to rip open the top flap, and you are afraid of using a sharp object to cut it open, simply take a flat head screwdriver, or a springy chef's knife like I used, and pry the flap open. It may take some work and a little patience, but it is possible to overcome with minimal strain on the hands. The mattress roll itself is encased in a heavy plastic that could possibly be reused as a body bag. My suggestion is that when you finally get the tape separated from the roll and it pops out into its pancake form, unroll it completely and let it sit for a second or two. You'll probably hear a faint hissing as the air is being sucked through a small opening in the plastic and into mattress. Encourage it to fully expand inside of the plastic covering by taking a razor blade to edge seams (while pulling them away from the mattress of course), and cut about 4-6 additional openings on all four sides. I guarantee that by the time you reach the other side, you will be surprised on just how fast it takes its shape. Once it is done fully expanding, stand the mattress up on a short end and lean it against the wall. Finish cutting the plastic off (without going into the mattress itself), and remove it easily. If you have purchased an additional mattress protector, which I also suggest that you do for obvious investment reasons, now is the time to put it on as you are already set up to do it. I'm a 165 lb man, and have been sleeping on it comfortably for a few days now. It doesn't sink when I lay down on it, nor can I feel the coil springs. My 8-year old son loves it as well. All-in-all, if you enjoy a firm mattress, there is no reason not to get it.

Solid Futon Mattress
Comes packaged very well in a thick cardboard box. I had to use some heavy duty scissors to cut it open because the box was so well glued together and the cardboard is quite thick. Unrolling it was a simple matter. It comes vacuum sealed in plastic, and that sealed plastic itself is wrapped in a "free" outer wrap of plastic. I was fully expecting the typical strong chemical smell literally every other vacuum sealed mattress I've ever purchased over the years to have, but this had a barely there chemical smell (the cardboard smelled much stronger, as a reference). Of course, everyone's sensitivities to smell are different. YMMV. I wasn't sure how long I should let it sit and "expand". Visibly, it seems to expand within seconds. But, since my frame didn't arrive until two days later, it sat on the floor untouched for two days "expanding". Visually, it's not as "clean" lined as the product image, but there's plenty of accurate portrayals in the customer images. Color-wise, the black is definitely very black, though it can also look less intense, depending on which way the fabric has been brushed (whether by sitting on it or whatever). There are these little hard rivets?/buttons? (there's probably a term for them I'm brainfarting on) in all the little indentations you see every few inches. You (or, I, at least) won't feel them when sitting/lying on this. I assume they're there to increase structural integrity, and prevent it from being like those old-school supper saggy futons out there. That said, the paranoid part of my brain can't help but wonder how my butt/body sliding on and off the surface is going to affect the long term stress on all of those rivets/buttons, and I can't help but feel that one of those will likely be the weak spot if/when the mattress inevitably breaks down. To be clear, this hasn't actually happened, however. :) I'm using mine strictly in "couch" mode in a wooden futon frame (I've had past experience with metal futon frames, and I'd highly recommend a wood one). It's quite comfortable. I gave up a very nice leather couch for my temporary move, and I wasn't going to spend a lot of money on something I only plan on using for a year, and I think this will serve very well as a budget conscious "couch", as cheap couches are generally quite terrible. There's an inclosed sheet about California Prop 65 (though it doesn't go into any specifics). I have no idea if the mattress is any more toxic than most other furniture. I'm pretty much resigned to dying of cancer in our modern society and environment, so I didn't really care.

Quality is commensurate with the price (of under $150)
On the plus side, this shipped quickly and compactly. Somehow they managed to roll it into a tight cylinder that fit into a 12" wide box. Getting it out of the box was tricky, as it's heavy: We cut the box carefully along the corners with a box cutter, since the roll doesn't fill the corners. Put the roll on your frame before using scissors to cut the plastic wrapping holding the roll together, b/c as soon as the wrapping is opened, the futon flattens out. Although it takes a day or two for the pad to fully expand in depth, we could immediately fold it up in our couch frame. The dark grey color is attractive, and the microfiber material makes it easy to clean. If there was a chemical odor to it, it dissipated quickly. Now on the negative side, the solid foam pad feels cheap when you sit on it. It's reasonably comfortable for now, but whenever another person sits on it with you, you feel their every movement. When the pad is on a couch frame, the seat side edges and corners sag when sat upon, so they need to be supported fully by the frame. Also, the end of the couch where we tend to sit is already thinner than the other end, after only one day of use. Perhaps the thinner end would expand again if left unused for a while. The underside is black and covered with a different material, so flipping it over isn't really an option. But perhaps this pad is better used flat as a bed than as a couch. Previous good futon pads we've used had a combination of different fillers, like thick cotton and wool pads, in addition to foam, and cost a few hundred dollars. This pad isn't bad for the price (we got it for only about $120). Just be aware that you'll get what you pay for.

great mattress, great price
I recently purchased a new DHP futon frame (Alessa) to replace my old wooden frame that had busted when I moved. My old futon mattress is... well, OLD and very, very used. It had been a "couch" during my college years, and a bed base for a good while after that. It is a typical cheap mattress you might find on a dorm futon. I decided that since I am now using the futon as my living room couch, I should upgrade to a nicer mattress as well. The reviews and price on this mattress sold me. I must say after 2 days of sitting and sleeping on this mattress (I skipped the bed last night to do a trial run on the futon), I, too, am extremely pleased with this mattress. Firm but has bounce, and the included cover is a nice, soft material. Every time I sit in it I am surprised by how comfortable it is. I slept like a baby last night too. This is just a good, all around mattress, period, futon or not. Though futons aren't necessarily known for being classy and elegant, I think the whole futon unit actually looks very attractive now as well. added bonus: unpacking the mattress is really fun!! Be sure to have plenty of room around you. The vacuum packed mattress came dangerously close to hitting my expensive electronics when I unpacked it because I underestimated how much room was needed. hehe

High quality well constructed and comfy
I am extremely happy with the quality of this futon. We purchased it for our rv. It is so comfortable and we actually had great sleeps while camping. We fold it up and use it as a couch during the day. The price is also excellent. I would definitely purchase again, we love it!

Good results!
I read many bad reviews which scared me and then had some shipping problems but they fixed it and it arrived sooner than what they said and when it arrived it was great, it does have a chemical smell at the beginning but itโs normal and fades within the week and now is even more comfortable than my own bed!

So far, so good.
So far so good. Purchased for a futon in a guestroom/den, so it will only be used occasionally. Standard double-bed size and expanded to the full 8" for us - just left it alone for a couple days. My 14-year old nephew slept on in several nights and said it was comfortable and it seems nice to us. We have guests staying for a couple weeks soon, so that will be the true test. I gave it 4-stars because I'm a little skeptical about how well it will hold it's form after its seen some more heavy use. Mind you I'm not really basing that on anything at this point, so I'll update the rating accordingly after our guests leave.

Very comfy
This futon mattress is actually more comfortable than my regular mattress, to be fair that mattress is 14 years old but it is still comfortable. I wasn't expecting to offer guests the best bed in the house.
