Can this grate cheeses like cheddar cheese?

I bought this strictly for parmesan...it handles very hard cheeses though, as Wade says, not as well as I remember my old (25+ years) Zyliss. The hopper is quite small. For cheddar I use the Microplane Professional series, extra coarse, which produces larger shreds. I haven't tried the other Microplane graters, though the medium two-way grater sounds interesting. I like these much better than a box grater, slips easily into dishwasher. I also strongly recommend spending just a bit more for the Professional series with steel handle.

would this work with soft cheeses like mozzarella ?

Hi there, I don't think so. It is great for hard cheeses and makes it very fine. I think Mozzarella would clog it up.

Can this be put in the dishwasher?

I did put it in the dishwasher the one time I used it. It survived the experience but not so much my cheese . I found it difficult to grate hard cheese .

My drum is old, can I get a spare drum for this?

Im not sure, mine is brand new. I would just order a new one, they are inexpensive enough and well worth it
