Just what I needed
This is just what I needed. It goes in my basement, in front of treadmill etc which face the open room where no walls are nearby. My ceiling is unfinished so the joists are exposed which is nice. I need it mounted ACROSS the joists. If this is your scenario so far, this story's for you.The mount does not have holes 16" apart, so I cut a piece of pine shelving 3/4" x 9" x 23" and fastened that to the joists with my own lag screws about 1/2" longer than Vivo's, to make up for the 3/4" lost getting the screw past the pine board. Probably overkill for a 17 lb 43" Roku tv but not a gamble that interests me.You don't need the full 9" width but I did need the 23" length, so that the mount's main support (the keyhole openings) attach directly thru the pine board into the front joist, while the rear end of the board reaches just past the rear joist. And the front end reaches the front mounting holes. (picture)Tip: I first tacked the board into place with a 1" picture-hanging nail in each joist, just enough to hold it up but easy to pull the board off if ever needed. That made drilling and setting the 4 lag screws into the 2 joists much easier, and hit every joist center. (pretty sure one screw in the rear would have sufficed) Lastly I put my own 1" wood screws in all the other mounting holes. None of this is in the manual and the parts aren't included. And it works great. I don't mind the slow movement. It's kind of elegant even. Very quiet. Also, I use preset 1 to raise it just enough for a 6'3" person to walk under (my ceiling is 8'). Cuts the motion time in half. Preset 2 takes it up just parallel to the floor. Turns out the up button (all the way up) takes it a litte past parallel and relies on the physical cutoff switch to stop it. Neither of which I want. Minor complaint: I'd like it to descend a bit lower, but not a big deal. The remote is RF. I think the complaints about the remote from 2 years back or more were an IR remote. IR you have to point at the receiver, RF you don't. I've had no trouble with mine so far (very early). Now, if the MOTOR craps out like it has for others, I'll be back to take some stars off.

Good, but ir reader slow to respond
Works great and have had outside for 4 years under my patio. I need a replacement IR reader as it doesn't work. I can't figure out how to contact customer support. I also want a new remote as mine is taped together after dropping.

How to make your friends a little jealous and improve your living space greatly
The media could not be loaded. I had a vision for what I wanted my living room to be able to do and this is literally the only ceiling mount that filled the bill.I have big bay windows facing the woods and the view is really amazing, but it’s also the only place to put a tv and blockIng the windows was defeating the point of having the windows. I thought there would be several choices to fold the tv up it was just a matter of the cash, but I found that there is only the hang down ceiling mounts, or folding ones for really small tvs not the main family one.I saw this one and watched the videos and read the reviews and decided I would buy and install myself with the help of my girlfriend. We braced the ceiling because my house is very old and all wood paneled and we weren’t 100% sure it would handle the weight. It was just a little extra work and made it easier to mount because we could do the stencil and predrill holes before we had to go up to the ceiling. Not only does it work but it’s pretty amazing how it transforms my little cabin into a seriously cool place. The power cord was too short and I didn’t like the idea of a extension cord up my wall and the company sent me a link to a cheap extra long power cord that is very thin and easily hidden. I had to buy a 15ft cord from Samsung for the tv and I’m waiting on the extra long hdmi cables to arrive soon can move the cords and equipment to a shelf away from the view.I have been actively looking for a way to replace the remote because I have read several times that it’s not replaceable by the company, but some programmable ones do work. It’s a great mount of you have a roof like mine. I have a samsung LCD 55’’ tv that is very light. It holds it and does the job no problem. It came with all the parts needed to do the job but no extras the bolts were very stripable so don’t use the wrong size drill bits or screw drivers or you’ll ruin the bolt.Plan your cabling and you’ll will bring your home theatre to a new level or a breath of fresh air to your living space.

HORRIBLE DESIGN for a workable mount.
I purchased this item several years back to mount a 55 inch flatscreen tv on my patio. The mount went up pretty easy, but programming the thing to work with the remote was horrible. Every year was a struggle. This year, the remote would not communicate with the unit any longer. I tried re-setting it numerous times, no luck. The unit would go up without a remote by tugging on the belt that lifts/lowers it; but the instructions indicated there was no way to lower it unless it was operated with a remote (WTF?). In the end, I cut the belt; I really needed it in the lowered position, so now I must raise it and tie it up in the winter. I threw the useless remote away. Why can't this company just make a mount that lower/raises with a crank? I miss the old days of cranks !!!
