Is this okay for veg planters and containers.

Yes, will be fine, I use it in containers and planters. Keep a few centimetres away from woody stems (like an olive tree or fruit bushes), but ok all round vegetable plants. Hoping you realise to use as top dressing or mixing in with compost/soil, not intended to be planted in direct?

Would you use this or composted bark? (This is cheaper but may work differently?)

Strulch smells nice, and less overpowering than composted bark. It will rot down over time to enrich the soil, whereas bark can rot down and deplete certain nutrients. Strulch is more effective at deterring slugs. It’s not a total deterrent but does seem to reduce slug damage. It all depends what you want the mulch to do. I used bark over weed membrane to stop weeds on an area behind my patio. It’s good if you’re not intending to grow herbaceous plants in the bed. Strulch is better in beds I think. Both are equally attractive to cats to use as a toilet.

What kg are the bags please

If you buy a small number of bags, they are 9kg each. If you buy 10 bags or more (I think), they are 11kg. By the way, it is very easy to spread by hand - easier than many other mulches.
