I initially used this to drain water around a leaking irrigation pipe. Now I use it to transfer water from my rain barrels. It's very effective in situations where an electric pump isn't convenient.

I had a local tree farm plant a very costly 15 foot tree. I had NO idea it would be so much work. They included a large (4 inch diameter) pipe that I am to check regularly and if it has water in it, apparently there's too much water in the root ball (WHO KNEW?????) So I have to pump out the excess water. I ordered this pump and it works like a charm. I'm a 71 year old woman so I don't want anything that requires a lot of lifting or strength to use. This is so easy. Put the shaft into the pipe and pump (why is this sounding so SEXUAL all of a sudden??) Each stroke (OMG here I go again) removes a significant amount of excess water and in a matter of moments, the root ball is no longer sitting in standing water. Easy and quick (that's what they call me too)

We had an outside faucet that developed a persistent leak. We couldn't get it sorted so had to hire a plumber. Ha! Couldn't get here for a week. The faucet comes out of the base of the upstairs of the house....it also drips right onto the carport concrete pad which butts up to the foundation of the house which was seeping dowd into the foundation wall. In the meantime, I got a fast delivery on this pump. Set up a series of huge outdoor non-draining flowerpots so could siphon water away from the foundation. It was a bit rube goldberg, but we kept things dry. Plumber got here. Was able to get all the old fittings replaced and fitted in I love that pump. It works like a dream. Plumber was expensive, but cheaper than dealing with leaks on the foundation walls.
