***A 2016 National Parenting Product Awards (NAPPA) winner From the #1 New York Times bestselling creative team of Jamie Lee Curtis and Laura Cornell comes a timely picture book about immigration. Raising important identity issues like &;Where did we come from?&; and &;Who are we?&; This Is Me is as delightful as it is important, sure to stimulate dinner table conversation. In This Is Me a teacher tells her class about her great-grandmother&;s dislocating journey from home to a new country with nothing but a small suitcase to bring along. And she asks: What would you pack? What are the things you love best? What says &;This is me!&; With its lively, rhyming language and endearing illustrations, it&;s a book to read again and again, imagining the lives of the different characters, finding new details in the art, thinking about what it would be like to move someplace completely different. It&;s an interactive book, too: Tucked into the back cover is a sturdy pop-up suitcase. And as a younger reader fills the suitcase, he or she learns a lot about what really matters: Now YOU take this case/ and imagine it&;s true,/ that you&;re leaving and needing/ to choose what says YOU. Review: Who You Are Begins With Your Past - Do you know where your great grandmother came from? Did she come from a far way country? The author, Jamie Lee Curtis, has written another book for children that combines a fun story that the children will take part in, and an educational lesson for us all. One day at school, the teacher shared her story of her great grandmother, and how she came to the United States. She was told to pack a suitcase with her favorite things, she could not take much, and they would not be returning for their other things. This was very difficult. And, then the teacher asked the children what they would bring if they had one small suitcase, what would they choose. Roberto, Shanay, Trey and Kate are just a few of the children, and we see what they chose. When you read this book, you will begin to think about what you would choose. Parents and other adults will enjoy reading this book to their children. This is the opportune time for the adults and children to discuss where they came from, and what they might choose if they had to leave their homes. This is such a wonderful opportunity to educate our children about immigrants, and why and how other people need and want to leave their home countries. The story is told in rhyme, this is such a fun, lyrical method of reading for adults and children. The illustrations by Laura Cornell are bright, vivid and colorful, and they depict the adventures of children deciding what they would pack if they had to leave home. Empathy and love for each other is so important in this world, and this book is one small start on this journey. Highly Recommended. prisrob 10-07-16 Review: Great book! Love this book!
This book is so cute! It really gets you thinking about what you would take with you in the suitcase. My kids love it. My oldest has brought this book to school for his teacher to read aloud. The class loved it and so did the teacher. I would definitely recommend this book! I love Jamie Lee Curtis and I look foward to anything else for her.

4 1/2 stars ...
Charming and sure to be a hit with the grandkids. Popups always fascinate kids and the suitcase in the back of the book gets an A+. Great illustrations. Terrific concepts. This book, however, is the same as her others in that the rhymes feel forced at times. Maybe this seems a minor point, but consider the storyline is engaging, leaving an impression. Part of the imprint is the enjoyment of less than professional poetry. This is how trends begin. We all can give examples of educated people using bad grammar without realizing it. What is familar becomes standard. The storylines of Ms. Curtis are wonderful. One has to wonder if she so close to these creations that she can't realize the value of an extra edit?

A Must have
I've got this book for my grandkids for Christmas , I came to this country with their dad when he was 6 years old. I told him exactly those words "we're leaving and we're not coming back, you can only take a few things" I cried and cried while I read the book when it came.non the mail. Absolutely beautiful!!!!

Loves these books!
Books by Jamie and Laura are our families favorites! When my wife and I were dating, we would sit in B&N and read them together and just laugh at the details in the illustrations. So much fun! Good memories.

Good but not the creators' best
Not the best from this author/illustrator team. The story is more earnest and less delightful than others they've created. Still smarter and funnier than 98% of kids books.
