Blood of Heroes: The Ember War, Book 3

Great Series
I have really enjoyed this series so far. Obviously the first 2 books are good enough have kept me going, but this third book I feel deserves its own review. I feel like Richard has really improved between the second book and this one. Don't get me wrong I really enjoyed the first 2, but this one just seemed to have far more depth to it. Sure there is lots of action, big explosions and more battles then you can poke a stick at, but at the same time, there were a few places that are just really emotional (for me anyway). War is glamorized in most science fiction, there are hardly ever main characters that die, and the loses are glossed over. This book didn't gloss over the hardship and loss as much, I felt the losses and believed in the story a little more because of it. Keep up the good work Richard.

Definately worth your time.
Good idea, Interesting moral dilema. What would your reaction be? How far would you go to make sure your morality and eithics weren't offended? What if your morality and ethics conflicted with each other? You need to read the series though. If wont make a lot of sense if you just pick up one.Amazon side note: This new short story series formulae is expensive and somewhat misleading value wise. An episodic series like this would never go to print with stories this short without combining episodes.

Excellent military SF
I began the Blood of Heroes, book 3 in the Ember War Saga with high hopes. Book 1, the Ember War reinvigorated my enthusiasm for military science fiction. Book 2, The Ruins of Antalas hooked me on the rest of the series. (I have not completed a written review on these two books but plan to soon.)I wondered if Blood of Heroes could be as good? Why would I stress about something so seemingly trivial? Because I really enjoy a good story. I don’t have time for junk. I value my recreational time so much as anyone and books take time to read and/or listen to.For someone as jealous of my time as anyone, I had questions.Would Richard Fox let me down as so many authors have in the past? Third books are hard to write. It takes talent to drive a story onward after the excitement of first contact. With two incredible books done, statistically it was time for disappointment.Time to get excited. What was the Blood of Heroes about? I expected to see more of my favorite charcters: Elias, Lt. Hale and his Marines, and Stacy Ibarra.I loved the chapters with the Armored soldiers (Elias and company). Blood of Heroes not only had more of Elias, but Brazilian Armor as well. Awesome. As for what Elias does...mind blown. This guy knows how to make an enemy.Without spoiling to much, I can say that some of the “Blood of Heroes” belongs to Lt. Hale. Book 2 ws when I really became addicted to the story of the Hale family. Book 3 has a bit less on this, but does not disappoint. All of this happens because Captain Isaac Valdar takes his ship and crew to rescue the Dotok on Takeni. (The Dotok are also threatened with extinction by the Xaros.) Everything that can go wrong does go wrong and some of the solutions are well imagined.I consumed this book mostly in audio book format, though I also bought the Kindle version. (I should probably double check my spelling with the books.)I had high hopes and high standards going into Blood of Heroes. Richard Fox remains one of my go-to military SF authors. I do, in fact, recommend this book to anyone who 1) likes to read, 2) has a fascination with strong characters, and 3) wants to read a series.

A series meant for discriminating space-op fans
I enjoy good storytelling, space-opera-like stories, politics and intrigue, as well as uncertainty with characters. This series covers most of those areas and is a far step above most books I read in this genre. My favorite space series were first few Honor Harrington books, to give you reference. If you like similar material, you will thoroughly enjoy this series.

Tons of action
Very good read and easy to follow the story line. Lots of action to keep the story going. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

Great series!!
My 5 star rating applies to each of the 3 books in the "Ember War" series that have been released to date. The author has constructed an involved storyline, one that is unique among all the sci-fi stories out there. The books are engrossing, with great characters, exciting situations, and plenty of action. I read the books in order in 3 days. I just couldn't tear myself away from the story.

Enjoyed it
Nice read. Story vaguely reminds me of the Swarm books (forgot what the series) is called. Same replicating machines of vastly superior tech being beaten. Enjoyed the read so far in the series

Well written but no depth
This book along with others in the series pits humanity against a robotic menace. It has an interesting premise and nest dynamics around a group of almost extinct biotics. It's well written and easy to digest. The problem lies in its depth. Each book centres around a specific event for the entire book. Ultimately that wouldn't be a problem if the events had any significance. I mean this book was rescuing a civilization in another system but held no real relevance to the underlying conflict. The broader storyline didn't evolve at all in the last two books beyond minuscule details. As a result the entire book is one outrageously long battle, where you could literally skip 15 pages of reading and not really miss anything but graphic war. It makes the read someone tedious. Almost like he doesn't ha e enough to write about so the author extends he book with long marine actions. The first 3 books could have easily been trimmed into one slightly longer story. On top of that there is literally no character development or drama beyond random deaths of characters we really don't care aboutNot bad but lack of depth had me skimming pages to get away from the straight military action into something more interesting.

Military SciFi at its best
I almost have given up on this genre, reading far to many bad novels. By accident I stumbled across the “The Ember War Saga” and became addicted. It has all I expect from a book. Good characters and very interesting plot.First book got me hooked up. Give it a try. If you like it the following ones won’t disappoint you.

Plenty Of Action And Adventure
A good read. Well paced. Genuinely heroic characters, some who don't make it. The consiquences taken for survival are beginning to appear. I'll be reading the next.
