Does the job it’s meant for.

We never travel without this carbon monoxide detector! Most places we stay don’t have one, so we always bring our own. On our Leopard 40 catamaran, we keep one in every cabin plus the salon and galley, and we also take one along when staying in Airbnb or Vrbo rentals. The one time we didn’t bring it was while hiking Acatenango in Guatemala. After a 7-hour climb to base camp, we were freezing and exhausted when our guide lit a fire. Smoke filled the tiny hut and we woke up with splitting headaches -classic carbon monoxide exposure. That scary moment taught us a lesson: no matter where we go, even up a mountain, this detector comes with us. The battery lasts a long time, the digital temperature display is a great bonus, and the alarm is loud enough to wake you immediately. Durable, reliable, and truly a must have for safety at home, on a boat, or while traveling. Highly recommend!

Must have been 10 years, almost to the day, that my old First Alert detector started beeping. Yeah, these last a long time on their internal power supply. I didn't shop for any other brand/model since the first one did such a good job of keeping us safe for so long. Instructions are provided and very thorough, so you'll be setting this up very quickly. The location was kept the same as the older model and was originally chosen from the list of recommended places by the manufacturer.

I moved into a very old house with very thick concrete walls, making drilling frustrating. The home I purchased came with the previous model of this detector. I saw mixed messages about whether the screws were aligned the same as the old model. Unfortunately, I found out that the screws are off by just the tiniest amount and won't fit on the old ones. It's kind of maddening that First Alert did this. I would love to just know why. Why frustrate customers like this? I am still using the new model, but I have it sitting on a shelf. This model of detector is great for those of us with old homes who can't drill into the wall. I like the unit itself. It stands on a shelf easily and it's unobtrusive. I like that it has the air temperature displayed and it has an overall modern look. I still recommend this item. Just don't buy this unit thinking that you can use the screws from the old model.

A lot of people were complaining about the thermometer feature on this thing being inaccurate. It was certainly higher than it should’ve been when I first unboxed it, but sitting in my room for a day it’s now showing the exact same temperature as my thermostat. Not an instant read thermometer by any means, I put it above a stove and it took at least 30-40 seconds to climb up just one degree. But from my experience it’s certainly accurate enough. Oh yeah, and it’s probably a great CO detector too. Plenty loud for sure.

Carbon monoxide alarms have protected my family many times when below deck on a boat. (fumes would sometimes blow into the cabin and we couldn't smell it but the alarm knew.) We keep these in several rooms of our home and sometimes travel with them. Most recently, I invested in another one to send with my kid to college. Even though rental units and dorms are required to have a carbon monoxide detector, I don't know that they are maintained or updated when other people are responsible for upkeep. It is a tiny price to protect my family and well worth the piece of mind. This model doesn't take up much space. It doesn't need an outlet and is portable. We just set it on a shelf or dresser. It comes with a 5 year battery. I like that it serves a dual purpose of listing the room temperature too. Of course the primary reason we buy these is safety. Sadly, there are too many cases of people losing their lives or being hospitalized because of carbon monoxide poisoning in dorms, apartments, workshops, etc... Just be sure your family knows to open windows and evacuate quickly if the alarm goes off. Highly recommend.

Very small and sits in my BR and doesn’t need to be plugged in

The detector is exactly as advertised with clear instructions for the simple installation. Even the fasteners are included. The 10 year life battery is a welcome feature.

Works great. Being powered by a long life battery you can place it anywhere you want it.

Appears to be a good unit. have not had long enough to rate battery life.

This is a quite small (5" x 2.5") and nice looking carbon monoxide detector that can be unobtrusively put on a dresser or hung on the wall. It shows the temperature all the time, but not that the CO is at zero which I wish it did to ensure it's doing its job properly, the only reason for a 4 vs 5 rating. Other than that, it's fine.

so far so good ... ten year battery, so i will update this review in nine years ;-)
