A Fantastic And Useful Ferro Rod and Necklace Combo!
This is my second purchase from Modern Outdoor Life and I'm just as happy with this Leicht Fire Starter Necklace as I am with the large Krรคftig ferro rod. I like this necklace because it's not only a fantastic way to daily-carry a backup ferro rod, it's also quite stylish and easy to adjust. The two safety clasps will detach from each-other with a little prying and will allow you to shorten the paracord to the length that you would prefer. For me, I took about two inches off each end and burn the ends with a lighter to create the hardened cord so the two plastic caps won't slide off. Just snap them back together and your back in business. As for actual use, I have tried this unit out on a small cotton ball that had been caked in Vaseline. After removing the lite coating of black protectant, I was able to get the cotton ball lit after a few swipes on the small ferro rod. I do have big hands, so finding the easiest way to grip the necklace and rod was interesting at first, but not difficult. Don't expect a massive shower of sparks with this little ferro rod, you want to be prepared with your tinder, but you will get a good hot fire going in no-time. The provided scrapper works well and looks good around your neck (I've already had some positive complements on it just in the last few days) The one thing I would possibly change is to remove the teeth from the scrapper and provide a simple-sharp squared edge for scrapping. I can see the teeth digging into the ferro rod if this were to get used in excess over time and shorten the lifespan, but it would still take a very long time and it's not an issue at all..just an observation. I'm going to take this out to my property and give it a better review in a real-world settings. I'll update this in the near future with my findings and thank you Modern Outdoor Life for providing us with great looking products and very reasonable prices!

Great necklace.
Very durable and strikes well. People always point out how cool it looks and are blown away when I show them it can make sparks too. I've used it to make a few campfires now; keep in mind it's a bit difficult to start a fire from sparks if you don't have the know-how. Otherwise, a very cool and useful necklace. I personally like my necklaces to be a bit tighter on the neck, and you can see I took off the clamp and tied a tightening system. Very easy and I'd suggest doing the same if you like adjustable necklaces. Many people ask if it's sharp and if it might stab my neck, but I've had no issues with it poking me. It's actually fairly dull, only sharp enough to strike the flint. I like the design and the paracord is durable, flint can be changed out as well if it were to run out. Waterproof of course, I never take it off. If you're looking for a cool, durable, and useful necklace, look no further.

tactical jewelry!
nice little striker! very light and small. doesn't throw a ton of sparks as it's so small, want to make sure you carry some tinder with you. ditched the clasps and just made adjustable sliding knots on ends of the cord. cos plastic, pffft... works best when utilizing the cord as a handle. even better with gloves as the little striker is kinda sharp. anyway fun survival trinket. right price for the tool, would recommend!

Love this thing.
True story. I bought this to wear (more or less), as a silent nod to other folks out there who are also into bushcraft and survival. It was slightly more subtle than wearing a Pathfinder Survival School or Georgia Bushcraft t-shirt. Wink, wink, nod, nod. You know the deal. I carry a ferro rod, Swiss Army knife and a lighter in my pocket even when I am in slacks in a fancy business meeting. Turns out, this little Uberleben Liecht gets more use than any of that pocket junk. I shortened the cord a smidge to bring it up the chest a bit. It is the same quality ferrocerium they use in all their rods and sparks up fatwood shavings like a champ. Love the convenience of it and it is still like a bat signal to other people that see it and think like I do. It has sparked fires as well as some great conversations. 10/10 highly recommend.

A little awkward to use but will do itโs intended job.
The size makes this necklace ferro rod and striker a little awkward to use, especially with cold hands due to low 35-37 degree temps in the northeast, but I wanted to try it at this temperature since Iโve already used it several times in warmer temperatures; And after fumbling with very cold hands and the small size of this item, I have to say, when you need it, itโs going to work, and that is itโs entire purpose. So 5 stars for design and functionality of this attractive looking and useful tool Uberleben!

Itโs a bit pricey but bigger than I thought it would be
I bought 4 and played with one. Itโs bigger than I that it would be. Works great comfortable to wear. Necklace part it longer than it looks in the pictures so it drops lower on your chest. The ferrous rod is a good size works well. I would definitely buy more as needed. The price is a bit higher but makes up for the quality of the overall necklace. Well done in my book.

One worked, one didn't
Ordered one set, it worked great, so I ordered a second identical item one week later. Ferro rod on second almost won't spark; it's like it's made of something different. I washed it, stripped it.... Striker works well on other rods though. Contacted seller directly, they said contact Amazon. Not worth a 30 minute drive to replace a $14 item. Won't be buying from this seller again. Contacted Uberleben directly and they are responsive. So I'm updating my review

Awesome Emergency Ferrocene Rod!
This an awesome emergency ferrocene rod! I have my primary fire kit and my backup fire kit with me when I am backpacking in the bush. However, if for some reason those 2 are unavailable for whatever reason, I always have this little guy on me for emergencies! Awesome piece of kit for any backpacker or bushcrafter out there! Highly recommended! Uberleben makes beautiful stuff! PS: I shortened it up a little by tying an Overhand Loop Knot at the top. However, if doing this be careful you do not strangle yourself when hiking! This allows my liquid filled map compass to hang below this piece of kit on a separate piece of cordage. My bear horn hangs above this piece of kit on yet another piece of cordage. This setup prevents the 3 items from banging into one another as they are all at different heights. Furthermore, this gives me modularity in my kit setup as I do not have to wear all 3 items if I only require 1 or 2 of them, since they are all on different pieces of cordage. Plus, a little extra cordage can never hurt.

Well made
Good scratcher, well made, safe to wear, absolutely no good as a cutter. Does what I bought it for but a good cutter would have been a nice extra
