I have "salt & pepper" gray -- but the base color isn't really pepper, but medium brown, which means it can look mousy if there isn't sufficient contrast between the gray and the brown. A shampoo made for gray hair is designed to clarify -- remove mineral and other deposits from the gray so it is a true silver color. Often these shampoos have a purple or blue cast to them, and in general aren't designed to be used every shampoo or you'll end up with old lady blue hair. However, this product can be used more frequently and doesn't appear to have any dyes in it at all.I immediately loved this product. The scent is a very subtle herbal/floral -- not heavy or perfume-y at all. Like most high quality shampoos, it does not produce heavy lather, because it doesn't contain harsh detergents that create that foamy lather. The product cleans the hair without stripping it dry -- which is important with gray hair, because the wiry grays can easily get a straw-like texture with harsh shampoos.I find using this, I do not need a conditioner at all -- which is a big change for me. I always conditioned, sometimes even adding a leave-in conditioner. However, with this product, it is simply wash, rinse, repeat, then done. After towel drying my hair I use a smoothing product, followed by air or blow dry. The result, even without conditioners, is a smooth "finished" texture, and bright silver grays. I have the contrast and texture I like. This product is a little pricey, however it takes very little product to clean my hair, so I'm using less than I did with my regular shampoo (Frederick Fekkai) , and achieving a superior outcome.

May be drying-May cause thinning but definitely Silvery locks for my Silver Fox!
I got this for my husband when I noticed his silver hair was becoming dull and was starting to get a yellowish cast to it. There was no way I was going to have him use the purple shampoos that might cause purple hair! He used the Klorane Silver Highlights Shampoo every day for a week and his hair was quite noticeably glistening in the sun like liquid silver! The yellow cast was gone! He did follow the instructions to leave the lather on for several mintues while he washed the rest of his body. He also used a good moisturizing conditioner prefering the Aterna Caviar Moisturizing ConditionerHe then developed a dry scalp so we had him reduce usage of the Klorane to just once a week and uses a mild shampoo without SLS the rest of the time. (SLS can be drying and according to our hairstylist can cause thinning of the hair--yikes!)So although I can recommend this product for removing the start of yellowing cast to the hair I also recommend that you use a very good moisturizing conditioner and as soon as you see the yellow gone then I would definitely reduce the usage to once a week, as maintenance and use a non-SLS shampoo the rest of the time so you won't get the possible thinning that can occur!

I was worried, but it hasn't turned my hair purple
A few years back I quit coloring my hair and let the natural color grow out. Turns out it's been a very nice silvery-white under there. My hairdresser recommended I use an anti-yellowing shampoo from his pricey salon line, to keep it that way. I was skeptical--this stuff was a deep purple color--but I tried it. Within a few weeks, my white hair had acquired a distinctly lavender tint. NOT what I was looking for!So I went in search of an anti-yellowing shampoo for gray hair that wasn't purple or blue. The only one I found was the old formula of Klorane. I tried it and liked the way it left my hair: soft, healthy, and silvery-white. I used it regularly for several years. But then Klorane got on the purple bandwagon, and now their anti-yellowing shampoo for gray hair is that same deep purple. I looked for an alternative, but almost every gray hair shampoo on the market these days is blue or purple. So finally, reluctantly, I tried the new purple Klorane. And it's NOT turning my hair purple! The color of the stuff still makes me nervous--I keep checking my hair under different light to see if I detect a hint of lavender--but so far, so good.

Good Product
It's a good product, but a little over priced. I have had white hair since my 30's, so over 20 years, and I have used many different products to get rid of the yellow hue white hair gets. Klorane has been around for awhile, it does remove the yellow hue which makes white hair look dirty, but it last only about a day. I have used other products that remove the yellow and brighten your hair for a good three to four days, and at half the price. Don't get me wrong klorane does work, but the value for what you get is not worth it.Would have given it a 4 stars if it kept my hair clean looking for more than one day. Yes I do wash my hair everyday, because it's oily hair, but Klorane is to expensive for everyday use; and does have a tendency to dry your hair out if used to much. I would suggest buying a hair product which has malave in it because it keeps your hair brighter longer, and is a better value.Tip: For removal of the yellow hue, you can use just a shampoo like Klorane, you don't need to apply a white hair condition, its over kill and a waste of money. Klorane and the conditioner you normally use is sufficient. Using both doesn't extend the amount of time your hair stay bright. The Klorane cleans the yellow out, so a special conditioner does not add any benefit other than the normal benefit of a conditioner! So save your money.

Changed formula
I didn't think to write a review until I saw the one from the other person. They have changed the formula and it is not as good. I tried to get the ingredients from the label on the original formula, so I could compare ingredients. I could not. I will buy a bottle as a last resort after I look for other choices to see what's available.
