Largely Happy with Sim Card
I went to China/Hong Kong/Macau recently. I read online its a hassle to get online in China because:1) Buying a Sim Card can be difficult because you need an Chinese ID2) Even if you get online the Chinese internet is censored (No Gmail/Youtube)So before my trip i picked up 2 of these cards. Installing and activating the card was very easy. Instructions are provided but its relatively simple to do even for non technical people. To my surprise I did not need to use a VPN with this Sim card and I could access all my western sites including Gmail. Speeds were sufficient for my needs and coverage was good. Worked fine in various cities in the Mainland, Hong Kong, and Macau. The reason I did not give it 5 stars is because I had issues topping up the card. The card works for 8 days. For the first 2GBs you get LTE data. After 2GBs the connection is throttled and gets noticeably slower. The card advertises it can be topped up via a VISA and Mastercard. Its online service did not support Mastercard and I was unable to top up with a Visa. My transactions on their online site kept failing. I also went to a physical China Unicom location in the mainland to try to top up my card but they were unable to look up the card number (said I needed to look it up in HK) and thus was again not able to top up my card.Overall happy with the card. 5 Stars if they fix the top up issue.

Dec 2019 this card was ok not great
I did like but not love this card. It was good not great. If you need lite usage this card is for you. If your a solo traveler or need to use Google maps..be warned. First remember if you are coming from the states to China your phone is automatically inferior. If you keep up with the Jones and have the best you probably still don't have 5 g and most people are rocking that if not close to that. So if you go through the nonsense I just went through with this card you will know to not believe the hype. I thought they might have paid for review s with how good the reviews were for this card. I can tell you I was getting slow service and a bunch of errors at wierd times and when I could connect I was barracuda at feeding time. The lack of access made everything less fun. Man. If you need your access just get a phone plan now Do it. But if you just need intermittent access. This could work. Some in my trip were using FaceTime and heavy streaming. I ain't gonna lie I was envious. That is why my lack of access of should I say slow intermittent access bothered me so much. I started taking pictures of my screen to accompany this review. China is ahead of the U.S. in electronics so only our best can compete there. This card is not our best. Please like this review and have an awesome trip. Oh.. I had access pictures but the way amazon does it I cant load pictures from a gallery I have to load pictures from the camera. So I just took a fresh picture of the card I did not use.

Bypassed the Great Firewall
I used this for seven days in both Shanghai and Beijing as well as a high speed train between the two destinations. Here's my experience on my iPhone X:It's a pretty straightforward installation once I popped in the chip and turned on Data Roaming (which you need to do) you'll get a strange black screen with a message in Chinese from China Unicom and you choose Accept and then you're all set. I was able to use Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Google, Whatsapp, YouTube, and Gmail with no issues or a VPN. The only small issue I had was that in China the image search (GIF) feature in iMessage was not available nor was Apple News but not really a big deal.I had great reception pretty much everywhere as well as the subway and I did use the phone extensively even making a view Facetime calls as well using Apple maps a lot. Now, i've read that some experienced their data running out but as a suggestion I wouldn't recommend uploading any 10 minuted HD videos 40 times a day. Save that for Wi-fi. Also definitely turn off Automatic updates for your apps., I got burned that way in Japan last year and wasted 2gb in updates overnight and had to buy another sim card I posted facebook and instagram several times a day and still had plenty of data left.I only had one incident where there was no data but turning the phone off and on resolved that issue. No need to worry. Buy with confidence, having a SIM card that bypassed the firewall was essential and made the trip way better.

Get This SIM Card Before Traveling to Mainland China
First, I want to acknowledge that this is in fact a China Unicom HONG KONG SIM Card that I am recommending you buy before your trip to Mainland China.I've used these SIMs a couple times and this SIM worked flawlessly every time throughout my travels to Beijing, Xiamen, Shanghai, and Hong Kong. The primary reason to buy the Hong Kong SIM card before your trip is that it is very difficult to source a SIM card in Mainland China. They do not offer travel SIM cards in the mainland and finding any sort of prepaid SIM is very difficult. Also, any mainland SIM card will block most access to foreign internet traffic (You'd be amazed how many of your apps run on Google or Facebook services which are blocked in Mainland China). You can save yourself a lot of trouble by using the Hong Kong travel SIM. It works fine in Mainland China and acts like a VPN, giving you access to the foreign internet traffic you need to use your phone's apps. With that said, if you are only traveling to Hong Kong and are a bit savvy, you can save a few dollars buying the SIM card at the HK airport. Though, buying it now makes it one less thing to worry about on your trip.

Pretty good. Had no problem
Pretty good. Had no problem. Only downside is you can't receive SMS and all public WIFI in China needs a SMS verification code to use, so you have to use data solely.

Great Card! My phone connected to China Unicom's network ...
Great Card!My phone connected to China Unicom's network right after I landed at Shanghai Pudong Airport. I used this card in Shanghai and Hunan, the signal was good enough to check emails, some websites and send photos.
