What a joy to hear Mr
What a joy to hear Mr. Frampton's consistent inspirational work through the years. Peter's catchy filled choruses and intense guitar leads are central in each of the 34 tracks. The first CD set provides the novice with a perfect introduction to his "hits" and on disc two - the best from his later day albums. The insert with a history of Mr. Frampton and the photos is priceless. Peter contiues to set the standard for other musicians to follow. Mr. Frampton has a very interesting story, having become a U.S. citizen in 2004. Highly recommeded!!

Celebrating Frampton's commercial golden years
Purchased this as a gift for someone who has been a great friend of mine since the '70s. He was happy to get it. The sound is generally very good, the two discs are packed with 16 songs each, mostly well-selected, the notes are no great shakes as they offer little in the way of new info or insights. The material is heavily weighted towards Frampton, Frampton Comes Alive, and I'm In You, which is fair enough I suppose, since they were his most commercially successful LPs. However, some of the lesser known tracks are among the most interesting: I Can't Stand It No More, Breaking All The Rules, Lying, You, and his cover of George Harrison's Beatles masterpiece While My Guitar Gently Weeps stand out. All in all, a pretty fair overview of the Peter Frampton solo career. Recommended for fans of '70s AM / FM Radio crossover (Classic) Rock.

Great deal... well "sorta"
I bought my first copy of Frampton Comes Alive, late in '75, and was playing it at parties before it got radio air time and went ballistic as it were. Last year I wanted to get some Peter Frampton and was about to order a copy of Frampton Comes Alive on CD...I saw Peter Frampton Gold at a club store and looked at the songs and thought there's everything that I want here. Well, the songs are all here alright, but most of them are studio versions, and although without doubt, Frampton is one of the finest guitar players of the "Rock Era", he is so much better of a live performer, that the studio versions of these songs show the difference in Frampton's Solo career before and after the release of "Comes Alive". Consequently this CD, has mostly stayed in the CD cabinet at home, (I took it out this morning and gave it another try, but with the exception of "A penny for your thoughts", (which might actually be better than the live version), the only songs I really enjoyed were the live songs sparingly interspersed through out the set.So here's the deal, if you already have "Comes Alive" on CD, you may be very happy with "Gold" otherwise I'd suggest you save your money and buy "Comes Alive" which on top of being one of the best selling albums of all time, is also one of the best.
