so I expected the worst: maybe rupturing from the force
I purchased two of these canteens back in 2016, and they have seen use everywhere from hiking on trails in the States to a deployment overseas where they have seen daily use. I have no complaints thus far after about 2 years of use. They have seen use in the field during the hot summers at Fort Hood. A common complaint of the GI canteens is they bleed nasty tasting chemicals when they warm up, or sit for too long. These canteens as advertised, do not have this unpleasant issue.I have taken both of my canteens hiking with me, where one has been accidentally dropped down a cliff face, where after tumbling for about 10 yards it was met with a sheer drop off of about 20 feet coming abruptly to a stop on a boulder face. It was full when it got away from me, so I expected the worst: maybe rupturing from the force. To my surprise, it was perfectly fine, significantly scratched, but completely sound otherwise. The plastic strap that holds the cap captive to the canteen body is made of a softer plastic. It will serve its purpose just fine, but I would refrain from carrying it by the strap; I had to break myself of this habit when I noticed it had formed a stress crease, and would break from repeated folding if I continued. Other than that, it’s well made and can easily replace a GI canteen in its full capacity.Recently on a second deployment, due to my own neglect one of my Oasis canteens became unserviceable. I promptly ordered a new one and it arrived today. My two previous canteens were manufactured in 2016, the new one that arrived today was made in 2018. I immediately noticed that Nalgene has reduced the amount of material that they use in the walls of the new canteens, and that the walls are noticeably thinner than the old ones. I don’t believe the new series would survive the fall that the previous one had during my hike. The quality of construction as well as the dimensions remain the same otherwise. I noticed as well is the new series are less opaque than the older ones, just a cosmetic difference I noticed. All said and done I would recommend this product for use as a part of a hiking setup, or if you are in the Armed Forces: a good replacement to the nasty GI canteens. The newer series does have less material than the old ones, but all in all it still seems to be of very resilient construction and should not let you down under normal circumstances. I am rating at 4 stars due to the thinner walls on the newer series, but this is still a quality product made in the USA!

109-year-old design, still better than the rest
A water bottle with an ergonomic design that dates back to 1910.1910!It's beyond me as to why this is not more popular than the jumbo cylindrical water bottles, like the original Nalgene bottle. I'm grateful that Nalgene has created their own version of it.So compared to the jumbo cylindrical bottles, I like this canteen for two reasons: (1) because of its flattened design, it is easier and more comfortable to hold, and (2) because of its flattened design, it packs easily into my hiking backpack. The circle may be nature's most efficient shape, but the cylinder bottle is terrible for packing into a side compartment, as it leaves unnecessary gaps and juts outward to the point of straining the compartment mesh. Unlike the cylinder bottle, I can easily put this into a side compartment and it will fit the contour of the bag and create a slimmer profile. And compared to the standard green plastic canteen, this canteen is easier to hold because the plastic has a kind of coarse-grain bumpy texture. The cap comes off more easily, and because the cap lanyard is longer and less stiff, the cap isn't scratching my face when I try to drink. And, of course, it's BPA free.

for it is the best canteen, for me
Part of my "Apocalypse Gear" as it may be said, for it is the best canteen, for me, in the world. As a US Marine for 9 years in the Infantry, 4 years as a US Park Ranger--Alaska, and a Game Ranger in South Africa--two or three of these Nalgene canteens set you up for success during tough times in the field with zero water for awhile. So, if all I got is three of these Oasis bottles around my belt, I monitor the water level, which must be spared to get to my next water hole. The taste must be sweet, satisfying and this canteen doesn't have that plastic taste for my hard work to fill it back up again. Get it, buy it, use it! Made in the USA!

I love the clear bottle so I can see how much ...
This was exactly what I was looking for. I'm in the Army and I despise drinking out if the GI canteens. I love the clear bottle so I can see how much water I have and the foliage green looks outstanding. BPA is also a plus.

Never thought I would review a bottle ...
I love this little nalgene bottle. I actually bought another one so I can keep one cooling in the fridge at all times. No plastic taste or smell. Fits into canteen cup and pouch from army Navy store. I come from a military family and spent time doing Civil Air Patrol, so I was familiar with this style. I liked everything about it except that I couldn't see into the canteen. The transparent material is easy to see through to gauge water consumption and any yuckies that could grow inside. I use this for my daily office work and can easily get through two full bottles just while at the office. They're ergonomic and sort of unassuming. The backpack I use has MOLLE webbing, so I just keep it docked on the side. I can keep my Mio handy as well. For backpacking use, I plan to take this as a around camp/dinner/flavored drink bottle, since I use an in-line Sawyer mini with a Platypus 3L big zip. The setup will also allow me to hang the bladder, stick the end into the canteen, and have a (admittedly slow) gravity filter stocking me up on clean, accessible water while I set up camp.Really happy I got this, can't wait for my blue one to arrive!

The wide-neck revolution is over. Long live the narrow neck!
So, I've bought a handful of stainless steel water bottles over the last few years, all with wide openings because that is a lot like drinking from a cup.But you don't drink from a cup on your bike or while standing up when walking or anywhere apart from sitting down because water goes everywhere!Following decades of military design, the Nalgene water bottle has a narrow neck and id shaped like a traditional military bottle. It's only in having one that you realise that those bottles curved to sit in an outside rucksack pouch and are easy to hold and drink from. They also sit in a crusader cup giving a water and cooking/drinking solution for little more space than the bottle.Being Nalgene, the plastic is tasteless and it is tough enough with flexibility to feel confident that it wouldn't crack if dropped. The textured surface means that it's slightly opaque but helps a lot with gripping it.The lid has a plastic retainer so you won't lose it and this can slip off for cleaning or if it's in the way.In terms of cleaning, you'd need a bottle brush to get to the top edges, but if you wash it regularly and dry it, that should keep it clean. Plus it's just clear enough to see if it's dirty inside rather than the mystery of a similar metal bottle. It's lighter than a metal bottle and you could probably fit it in a military holder which I haven't tried.I bought mine in May 2019 for £6.95 all ain, At the time of writing they are more than that therefore the mrice may fluctuate.

A worthwhile piece of kit.
The bottle is made of a high quality plastic. It is quite tough and the sides of the bottle are slightly flexible but I do not think that it will take much abuse. The bottle does not impart any after-taste to water. The semi transparency of the plastic makes it easy to see how much water is in the bottle so one can refill it if necessary. The empty bottle is lighter than those of a similar capacity made of aluminium or stainless steel.

Flasche hat einen sehr weichen Frontbereich (siehe Video)
The media could not be loaded.

Good lighter weight bottle that's lower profile and fits nicely in smaller hands
Great bottles that are lower profile than the standard nalgene. Good if you have smaller hands that find the 1L wide mouth Nalgene bottles awkward. Fit nicely into side pockets on rucksack.Material is a little thinner than standard 1L naglene bottles which makes them a little lighter and a little less rigid. They seem robust enough for the moment. The foliage / green colour is pretty dark, almost black, the blue is a little easier to see. It's a shame they don't put measurements on these as they do with the standard 1L nalgenes.

I really wanted to like this. I dropped it and cracked the head meaning that it leaked. I put it down to user error and ordered another one. This other one also ended up cracking even though I don't remember dropping it. I have to take drinks bottles to work and I expect them to take a bit of abuse, not crack under pressure. I've ended up getting a metal one instead. All in all, it's a good bottle but not particularly rugged.
