XLUX Long Probe Plant Soil Moisture Meter, indoor outdoor use, Battery-Free

I bought the 40cm version specifically for checking moisture levels in larger pots and planters, and it has been extremely useful. The long probe allows me to see what’s happening deeper down in the compost rather than just relying on how dry the surface looks. The meter is simple to use with no batteries required. The readings respond quickly and have helped me avoid both overwatering and underwatering my plants. I was surprised to find that some pots that looked dry on top were actually still quite moist deeper down. The build quality feels good, the probe is sturdy, and it’s especially useful for larger containers where judging moisture by eye is difficult. Since using it, I’ve been much more confident about when my plants actually need watering. A great little tool for any gardener, particularly if you grow plants in pots and containers. Fantastic! Saved me over or under watering

My wife recently got an allotment, and this has saved her from overwatering many of her new plants as she learns how to maintain the land. Highly recommended. You simply insert it into the soil, and it tells you whether it is moist. Simple as that. Great purchase! It’s very durable, easy to use, compact to hold, and overall versatile.

Never used one before and I’ve got to say it is brilliant, all you do is simply slide the probe into the pot and a instant reading comes up, red green or blue meaning dry moist or wet, it’s so easy to keep track on plants with different watering needs most of my large shrubs are in huge containers so it works well for me 👍👍👍 hope this helps 😊

It appears to work very well. I have a large olive tree and it is really difficult to know if it is dry or not. While it is always easy to check the top of the soil, it is incredibly difficult to tell if the soil is still wet further down. This meter completely solves that problem and takes away all the guesswork. Plus, the gauge is nice and clear and easy to read!

Excellent soil meter for large plant containers which can dry out quickly in hot weather. The probe ideal for olive trees in pots which need to be kept moist in summer months but not overwatered.

Within two months the moisture probe end has corroded and is unusable and the main shaft is rusting - isnt it a bit daft to make a moisture probe out of such a low grade, easily corroding material??? [and before anyone says it, yes I understand exactly how the chemistry works - BSc Chemistry Hons graduate] Even if sat in a glass of water it now only reads as mid-level"moist" - do not waste your money on this item. Bin fodder! Spend your money on a more robust model.

I bought the XLUX long probe because I have a number of plants in large pots both in a conservatory and outside. I bought it for less than £10 on a prime day, which represents excellent value. The long probe enables you to test moisture levels both near the surface and deeper into the planter. It is far better than using your finger to test soil dampness because for larger plants with deeper roots it is essential to judge how much water a plant needs to avoid either underwatering or overwatering. I also test in more than one spot on larger pots. I attach two photos for comparison showing moisture levels both near the surface (finger depth) and deeper into the pot. They demonstrate how easy it is to over water based on a finger test because deeper down the soil was moist enough and only a small amount of water was needed near the surface where the compost was dry. With plants like the strelitzia in the photos regularly costing upwards of £30 it is easy to see how buying this device is justified. If you keep plants like citrus, oleander and strelitzia then I would deem it essential that you buy a long hygrometer like this.

Very curious results in the beginning which we thought were showing us that our pots were overwatered - following this we did not water the pots for many days. However, after getting many "wet" results from pots we checked the soil and it was it was dry. Not only this but borders that were soaked by us we checked them half an hour later and they showed as completely dry - not even moist. I live in the UAE and I suspect that either this device is defective or it's not working properly in such warm environment.

Top – man muss nur die Anleitung verstehen (Dazu weiter unten im Text mehr) Ich habe den Moisture Meter jetzt seit einem Monat drinnen und auf dem Balkon im Einsatz. Meine Pflanzen sehen deutlich besser aus. Es gibt sogar eine, die bisher seit Jahren so vor sich hingefleucht hat und ich dachte, die ist halt so – aber auf einmal steht sie ca. 20-30 cm mehr aufrecht, ich war regelrecht überrascht :D Was mich übrigens auch total überrascht hat: Das Teil braucht nicht mal eine Batterie, sondern funktioniert einfach so. Hätte ich bei noch gründlicherer Vorab-Recherche natürlich auch vorher wissen können, aber eine schöne Überraschung ist ja auch nicht so schlecht, haha. Man verschätzt sich einfach schnell, weil die obere Erdschicht trocken wirkt, obwohl es unten noch feucht ist. Seit ich das Messgerät nutze, passiert mir das Übergießen nicht mehr. Auch krass im Hochbeet! Ich hätte mindestens dreifach so viel gegossen als nötig. Zu den teils negativen Bewertungen: Wer das Teil (sogar mit Foto!) in ein Wasserglas stellt, um zu „beweisen“, dass es nicht funktioniert, weil es nicht "wet" anzeigt, hat die Physik hinter dem Gerät und die Anleitung schlicht nicht verstanden. Das Ding misst die Leitfähigkeit von Erde, nicht von purem Wasser. Das Problem sitzt hier also eher vor dem Produkt (wie so oft, Human Error in Amazon Bewertungen). Fazit: Wenn man es richtig einsetzt, danken es einem die Pflanzen meiner Erfahrung nach. Ich bin super zufrieden! Auch von der Preis-Leistung her. Je ne comprends pas pourquoi à chaque fois il faut retirer la tige et la remettre, sinon ça reste toujours à gauche de la jauge (sec sec).... même en arrosant. Si il y a une astuce ou info... n'hésitez pas à me dire.
