Yes, there is a charging cord you can plug in to the cig lighter . Mine stay plugged in charging all the time.

On a scale of 1-5 (5 being great), what the sound like when not using headphones?

I’d give it a 3. But that doesn’t mean a 3 is bad. If it’s too loud it will drive you crazy. My kids can each watch a different show and not complain about not being able to hear their show. If you want it louder, just connect an auxiliary cable between the DVD player and the aux input on your car and listen over the car’s speakers. Hope that helps.

Do they work if in 2 differnt vehicles

Yes they will. But the kit only comes with one car charger so the one in the second car will rely only on the battery that’s in the unit.
