Of what metal is the heating element made?

It appears to be steel,but not sure. But I love it works like a charm!

No Drip Tray? Isn't that needed to prevent dripping over the sides?

The baskets kind of “nest” inside the steamer tray (I don’t know if I’m using the right terminology, but as condensation collects inside the lid and basket and drips down, it goes back down into the steamer tray. Essentially, the steamer tray works as a drip tray. The only time I’ve had drips is when I j correctly use the wrong sized (i.e too large) basket, which then doesn’t nest properly. And I’ve been using this for a good three years now.
