The color of the label is white, the yellow thing that shows on the picture is the protective cover for the adhesive and needs to come off when you apply the label.

The cartridge holds a laminating strip that's 14 feet long. The actual number of labels depends on how big your labels will be. If you do a label that is a "1" the label will be short and you get more out of 14 ft. If the label is "Control Room" the label is longer and you get fewer labels out of the 14 ft. Being able to make labels in different lengths according to the text is an advantage, but you can't predict how many labels you'll get out of a particular 14 ft.

Q: do you get more printable area in the 1.5" labels?

you can print several lines on 1.5 but the more lines the smaller the print.
