Will it measure through painted or coated surfaces such as painted air tanks?

I have used it through paint on castings, and it appears to work. The only time I struck problems was when the coating was thicker - like a layer of polymer over 2mm thick on a paper machine roll cover. For that, we had to grind off the coating to get back to bare steel.

The wires from the sensor to the machine pull out, they were just shoved into place with nothing to hold them in. I don't recommend this unless you have perfect conditions to use it
