I purchased this unit to monitor activity on a front door as I have a child with learning difficulties who has a propensity to wander and older offspring who have a habit of forgetting to shut the door properly after a night out.The unit works very well and is paired with my Apple TV to provide feedback via Homekit to my iPhone App. When the door is opened or closed an alert appears on both my wife's phone and mine wherever we are. This means that we know what is happening to the front door even if we are out walking with the dog or shopping. It can also report back on the temperature of the hall which might be useful for checking on hypothermia risk for elders.Fitting the unit was very quick although I had to use a thicker sticky fix to compensate for the profile of my uPVC door as the device comes with sticky tabs that are very thin. You can also fix the unit with screws for a more permanent solution.The power is derived from an internal camera type battery. I haven't had the unit long enough to know how long the battery lasts but you do get an alert and battery status on the phone.All in all a good purchase which has proved it's worth.

I bought four of these to use on windows. I want to like them, but my experience has been very poor.Good:- Aesthetically discrete and pleasing.- I have not had the alignment problems others have mentioned in their reviews. On my sliding windows, the devices are accurately triggered when the windows are closed or opened.- HomeKit compatibility means sensors can be used with Home application to take actions when the sensor is triggered—e.g., turn of air conditining when someone opens a window.- Installation was easy enough by following instructions.Bad:- Battery life has been three months, compared to the two years advertised on FIBARO's web site.- The adhesive provided with the device is not strong enough. It gives in to the weight of the device itself, incorrectly triggering tamper notifications. I had Amazon replace one unit because it simply fell off. My window frames are painted metal, which is not a porous surface and therefore this should not happen.- The cover is not tight enough, incorrectly triggering tamper notifications. Most of my four devices constantly report as tampered because of this issue or the issue described above.- Temperature readings are fairly incorrect. I have thermostats next to these devices and their temperature sensors are usually off by five degrees or so.- Range is limited—if your HomeKit hub is not located within 15 feet of the device, there's a good chance it will not be able to communicate with it.- Expensive compared to competition.I have just made a warranty claim. I will revise this review based on FIBARO’s response.Unfortunately, this device is not ready for prime time. It tries to do too much and ends up doing nothing. I wish they removed the tamper and temperature sensor and made this a good door/window sensor that customers can actually rely on.

For reference, I currently have the Elgato Door and Window Sensor: Elgato Eve Door & Window, Wireless Contact Sensor with Apple HomeKit technology, white on my one of my doors. Since the Fibaro has a temperature sensor built in, I thought I would buy this contact sensor instead of another Elgato for my other door. However, after comparing the Fibaro product to the Elgato product, I've decided to stick with Elgato for now.First Fibaro only prints the Homekit setup code on the back of the setup manual They do not print it anywhere on the device itself, like Elgato and iDevices do, so if you lose the manual, you will not be able to setup the product again, if you happen to lose the manual and need to set up the product again.In both the Elgato and Fibaro products, the smaller piece of the sensor is not the same height as the larger piece. Further, sometimes you will find your door is not as straight/level as it was when it first was installed. Maybe because you kick the bottom part of the door to open it, or your toddler might have rammed his little truck into that one space too often, and now it has a small dent. To combat all of these cases, Elgato provides about 6 spacers with the product. You can stack the spacers together, and connect them to the smaller contact sensor to raise it to the height of the larger contact sensor. This was a great design choice, as I had to use most of the spacers to align both pieces of the Elgato contact sensors to my door.The Fibaro product does not have any spacers, so it as a little more difficult to align both pieces of the sensor to my door to make sure the larger piece always sees the smaller piece when the door opens and closes. To make sure the larger piece sees the smaller piece, I bought double sided tape at my big box store, and cut it to fit the smaller piece of the Fibaro sensor. I just placed multiple pieces of this double sided tape together to help raise the height of the smaller piece of the Fibaro sensor. After I did that, the contact sensor worked great every time. The spacers Elgato provides really makes installation much easier. Your mileage may vary since your doors will be different than mine and you may not need any type of spacers.The Fibaro motion sensor also seems to go to sleep, to conserve the battery, every so often. When you open their app, the Elgato app, iDevices app, or the Apple Home app, to connect to this device, sometime you'll get a connection failure. Sometimes, the failure will correct itself and the device will wake up. But sometimes, you need to go into the IOS setting and turn off Bluetooth and turn it back on again to give the device a kick to wake up. When this deep sleep happens, even opening and closing the door does not wake it up. Therefore, you might miss one or two open and closes.The feature that I believe Elgato has over the Fibaro, and any other door/window contact sensor for that matter, is their logging. Every ten minutes, Elgato logs all the OPEN and CLOSE events that happen on the device. They keep a months’ worth of logs on the device. Therefore, you can go back in time and see the exact day and time a particular door/window was opened and closed, within that month. You can even look at just the OPEN or just the CLOSE events individually. This is a really interesting feature that is missing from the Fibaro product and once you get use to having these logs, you miss them when you don't have them.Currently, IOS 10.2 enabled Homekit notifications. However, Homekit notifications can be finicky. Sometimes I get them and sometimes I don't. If you use an iPad or Apple TV as a hub, and have rules running on them, as well as rules running on your iPhone, then I have found that Homekit notifications can be stalled for about 10 seconds or so. If the rules engine on your phone runs first, and fails to communicate over Bluetooth, for any reason, then no rules will run on your hub device for about 10 seconds. Thus, you will lose notifications during this time. So, the Elgato logs become a really great feature to have in this scenario.Lastly, If you place the sensor at the top of the door, the temperature sensor will register a higher temperature than if you placed it on the bottom of the door. Neither may not be the true temperature in the room, as measured by your thermostat, as the your thermostat is measuring the temperature around the middle of the room. Currently, there is no way to provide an offset, for this device to provide a reading close to what a thermostat would provide.In terms of reliability, and overall app design, the Elgato product has the edge over the Fibaro product at this time. To use the Fibaro product with any rules, you'll have to either use the Elgato rules engine or the rules engine inside the Apple Home app. Currently, the Fibaro IOS app does not have a rules engine of it's own.

I moved into a new apartment and have been setting everything up as a smart home - lighting, contact sensors, thermostat, cameras, etc and using HomeKit and IFTTT to automate. So I am pretty familiar with how things should work.As for sensors, I am trying both Fiabaro and Eve for my doors. Eve works without a hitch. Has been super stable for about a week. Doesn't miss any alerts or events.Enter Fibaro. I wanted to test it and then expand with several more door sensors with whichever one was better. Fibaro was more expensive, likely due to it being able to provide temperature info.Instructions are terrible. It doesn't tell you in detail how the door sensor and magnet should be aligned. To further confuse you, there aren't details as to which way to put the cover on the sensor. I inferred the dot and line marking was the correct way.I tested the contacts quite a bit before installing. First set it up in their app to be discoverable. This was a breeze and their app is actually pretty good. The sensor seemed to work well and communicate with HomeKit once I found the right position.One I put it on the door itself is where things went south. On the kitchen table, for my testing, it worked flawlessly on the flat surface. However, my door and frame are slightly aligned at different depths...nothing major but the common 1/8. The contact sensor could not detect the door was closed (or sense the magnet when closed).I then took off the magnet to find the best spot. It became clear that there are two major issues with Fibaro. It cannot deal with a for that had a slightly different depth than the frame. I tested by elevating the magnet several times while looking at the app for real time detection. When elevated to the same depth, it detected, when placed at on the doors depth it read as opened. Also to make things worse the sensor has a very short range, much shorter than Eve which likely contributes to this problem.The other issue is that the temperature is off by about 5 degrees. I didn't buy this for reading the temperature so it isn't a deal breaker but worth noting as Fibaro seems to be barging a premium for this finction over Eve - so it better work, but doesn't.Fibaro has some work to do on this sensor and would hold off and get the Elgato Eve instead. Eve also has to poor reviews but have found that hey updated the firmware with v2 hardware and with Apple fixing HomeKit to enable notifications of sensors it works as one would expect.I am awaiting to receive and test Fibaros water leak sensor. I hope it is better than their contact sensor since it is the only HomeKit enabled one on be market. For now, can't recommend their door sensor.

I bought this to monitor a hatch on my boat and try the device out before buying one for each hatch and window. Product set up was easy, functionality is good.However, It comes with a non-rechargeable specialty battery inside which, once registered with Apple Home, I noticed was almost dead. I emailed support to ask them to send me a new battery since this was brand new and that’s about 25% of the cost of this device and they flat out refused because “it will cost too much to mail it”. With customer service like that, I would never order another product from Fibaro. There are plenty of other companies out there making similar HomeKit devices that actually stand behind them.Update 12/22 - I bought a replacement battery, put it in, and the device has completely stopped working. It turns on, it’s registered, it just doesn’t know when the door is opened or closed now. Anyhow, garbage device plus horrific customer service... wish I could do less than one star. Very disappointing.

That's really great product with unique design. HomeKit sytem gives me notification when front door is open. Very simple way to set it up without anycomputer, just HomeKit App.In addition it gives temperature reading which is really cool. It's hardto notice when you install it but looks really professional.

This is the first sensor I bought from Fibaro collection that is able towork with Apple HomeKit. Very easy to install, didn't need to pay aspecial installer or professional to get it working. I put it by myfront door, which tends to open often throughout the day, and it's greatbecause is also lets me know the temperature too, and it can let me knowwhen the temperature falls to a degree I set it to. So far I like it.

I am currently setting up my entire home as a HomeKit enabled house, and have a lot of experience now with many different devices and many different brands. They are not all easy to work with, but with a little trial and error, and some learning over time, they usually settle into functionality. For many reasons, I cannot recommend the Fibaro door/window sensors. My goal was to network these to a central security system to chirp when the doors open and close, and act as a security siren when set appropriately. We have a 1 year old toddler, so a reliably system is a high priority for us. First, the positive: they are small and attractive. They are very low profile, and come in several colors to match whatever your home's decor may be. But with respect to functionality, they are not acceptable. The sensors need to be placed just perfectly, which is literally impossible with almost any door. Even in a perfect environment, flat on a table, they don't reliably register open/close when you move the sensor. They repeatedly and irregularly registered low battery power, less than 15 minutes from being removed from the box. I installed, uninstalled, installed again at least 5 times - nothing solved the problem. In short, nothing about these sensors work, and because they are a security device, I would not recommend their use. I wanted these to work so badly, based on aesthetics. But without significant improvement, I would stay away.
