Thanks Brinsea for the Mini II ECO. I was looking to help my nephew who is home schooled with a project. He decided to showcase Quail egg incubation and hatching. I choose the Mini II Eco as it suited my budget and didn’t know if I will ever use the incubator again , but to my surprise I have already hatched in the twice now. Because I work from home I opted for the manual turning kit which came with simple instructions. The project for my nephew was a huge success and he learnt a lot about incubation and hatching. He has kept the notes for future reference and those notes were helpful for me during the second hatch. The Mini II ECO was bought with the Semi Manual egg turner and Hatching mats. The turning kit was helpful because that meant I didn’t have to lift the lid to turn the eggs. The Mini II ECO came with easy to read instructions.

Brinsea incubators are considered to be the best on the market by some experienced breeders. This one is supposed to fit10 hen eggs or 8 duck eggs, I find that unless the eggs are super small, it barely fits 8 median to large sized chicken eggs ( see photo). Also the smooth plastic bottom causes eggs to roll around quite a bit each time I touch the incubator. It does come with a corrugated cardbord ring, but it’s supposed to be used only during the last a couple of days of the incubation. So I had to make some egg cups to support each egg by cuttting up an egg carton. Having said that, this is over all a well-designed and easy to use incubator. The temperature needed a few adjustments but once done, it was stabilized quickly. The instructions come with it is very clear. If you only hatch 8 or less eggs, then this inexpensive one is fine. I wish I had purchased a larger one though because the I don’t like the fact that even 8 eggs look squeezed together.
