Firefield SE Spotting Scope and Tripod

Did a lot of research on budget/value spotting scopes; there are a number of other & well-known brands in this price/quality range but what swayed me to purchase this unit was the use of the better lens glass (BaK-4 vs. BK-7); very subtle in the specifications. Not a big deal but just trying to get the best bang for the buck. Have used at the shooting range for viewing targets @ 100 yards; although windy, I was able to settle in on my targets & consistently view them clearly without too much constant adjustment; used tripod on shortest settings. Haven't tried to 200 yards, yet; hoping to at least be able to see holes in paper if not clearly at that distance...that is if I can hit the paper. Cases (hard & soft) are nice; tripod is somewhat flimsy when fully extended but useable (much better if you use it at it's shortest height on a bench as I noted above). Repacking in the hard case with the tripod can be a challenge. Have to weight the cost vs. what I got. Overall, very happy with purchase!

As with most all the other reviews, I would say this scope is worth the money. You could spend alot more and get a better scope... Do you really need a better Scope? This works just fine for me..I give it 4 stars because the metal case is a rather cheap as well as the tripod, but still a Good Deal I would say.. The Nylon bag is not bad.. The Scope it's self is very light weight.. Fairly Compact.. Seems rugged enough.. Water proof etc.. The Optics are very Clear and have no problems viewing things at far distances.. Clarity does seem to reduce some what at highest magnification, but not that bad. One review mentioned he had it outside in cold weather for hours and had no issues.. That is one thing that sold me on buying this Scope. You should have no problem seeing your hits down range for hundreds of yards. I plan to get a good Table top tripod. I would say a Great Practical Scope for the Range, Nature Watching as well as Surveillance.

Before buying one of these, try this product simulation:1. Find an old magnifying glass2. Smear it with Vaseline3. Try to look at something far away through the magnifying glass4. Box up the Vaseline-covered magnifying glass and pretend to send it back to Amazon.In all seriousness, the packaging and appearance of this item were absolutely top-notch. I was feeling good about my purchase as I unpacked it, thinking I had finally found an affordable spotting scope. Alas, my dream was trampled as soon as I looked through the eyepiece. The image quality was poor at minimum magnification, and just plain horrible at maximum.Returned for a refund.

I decided to purchase this based on other reviews and was not dissapointed. I was trying to decide between this one and a $300 Redfield 12-60x80. I compared this Firefield to a $100 Barska 12-60x78 i've had for 7 years and WOW... Not even close. The Firefield has it beat in overall clarity (especially edge to edge), field of view, and sharpness. The magnification was similar as expected, but the Firefield is simply much more enjoyable to look through. It's nice enough that I don't know if I'll bother purchasing the Redfield but will give an update if that happens. This firefield is GOOD ENOUGH TO SEE .22 CAL HOLES @ 200YRDS on plain green target paper, so I'm happy.The overall build, focus and magnification knob are solid and feel reliable. The aluminum tripod is adequate, about chest high, so works best sitting or on a table. But for the price, much better than i expected. The case it comes in, well it's nice, but mostly just for storage.

This scope works reasonably well, especially for the price, at distances of about 100 yards. I don't know how good it would be after that as there seems to be a fair bit of haze and fuzziness even at that distance that the focusing knob can't accommodate for. I would, however, recommend a very heavy tripod. The included tripod is basically worthless, scrap metal at best. You might be able to mount a phone or super compact camera on it but I wouldn't expect it to hold anything of any noticeable weight steady at all.One good thing is that the scope itself seems reasonably robust. I knocked it from about four feet straight onto a hardwood floor and it doesn't seem to have affected the function of the scope at all.I have an old photography tripod that this guy sits on basically all the time. The tripod I use weights about 15 lbs, grossly overkill for this scope but even when mounted on that monstrosity breathing too hard makes this thing wobble enough to lose a picture at higher magnifications.The case it comes in is OK; I just leave mine on the tripod at all times since that's the only way it's ever usable. The lid kind of fits straight on but you could crack the thing with a butter knife from the looks of it so don't bother locking the case.This serves my occasional needs well enough; if you're just doing some basic sighting in of a rifle or only using the lowest magnification this is a great spotting scope for the price. It's hard to justify 3 or 4 figures for a high quality rig in my case; if you're using a scope as an every day tool or in any professional capacity then I would look elsewhere.

I bought this spotting scope because my current one,a Barska 15-40x50,wasn't up to the task of 75-100 yard zeroing. This one however,most certainly is. This package came with a hard case,soft case,and tripod. The tripod is adequate for bench shooting,but is a little flimsy when it is fully extended. I have a Slik II mini tripod that I use at the range which is great. The scope also comes with screw-on lens covers that are much better than typical lens covers and when they're on,they stay on. The image is quite clear and at all magnifications and the fine adjustment knob helps to focus the image. I am very pleased with this spotting scope and did quite a bit of research before deciding on this one due to positive reviews and excellent price point.
