Fun STEM kit
I got this for my kids so they could have something fun and educational. I've done other STEM kits with them like "underwater volcano" that are fun but have no lasting value - you can't really repeat it without buying refills and when it's done there's nothing to show for it. The crystals are interesting because you make them and then...you've got some crystals you can hold or look at, and they're pretty colors on top of the lighted stand. It's hard for small kids to help because you have to boil the heck out of the solution and the instructions make it very clear that the powder is toxic (don't inhale it) and the solution is toxic (don't touch it, don't drink it) until it dries. They can at least watch you do it and you can talk about what's going on, and they can help put in the starter if they're careful. My favorite part was the couple of weeks the crystals were growing. Every day my kids would want to look at them and see if it was bigger. Eventually the crystals are done, you pour off the liquid, and you can see them while they're drying. Then you pull them out and put them on the stand. My kids really enjoyed holding the crystals to see what they feel like and looking at the colors and how you can see through them. All three crystals on the stand actually makes a nice decoration for a shelf and you can say you made it yourself. Not a lot of downsides - you can only do it once but you can space it out by making the crystals one at a time and you do at least have pretty crystals at the end. The crystals are not sharp but they are pretty fragile so you can let kids handle them but it's likely some of the ends will break off sooner or later and I imagine you could crack or shatter one if you dropped it on a hard floor. The lighted stand has a capacitive touch power button and ours is sometimes possessed. If you leave it plugged in it will sometimes turn itself on or switch from solid to blinking mode, which is minor but not great. Overall this is a fun STEM activity where you make something cool and the older your kids are, the more involved they can be in the process and the better they'll understand what's going on, but even small kids will enjoy making pretty crystals at home.

Lots of fun for your little scientist
I got this for my daughter for her birthday and she has had the best time making these. It is a bit of a process and takes several days for the crystals to form but she has loved watching it grow. You do want to be very careful and not get the liquid on your hands due to the crystal forming material. If it gets on you if feels like little pieces of glass stuck in your skin. But if you are careful this is a fun project and neat to watch. 9/10 recommend

Vivid colors, rapid growth, different types of crystals excellent gift
This kit offers great colors and unique crystals. My daughter is so picky about what types of gifts I'm allowed to get for my grandson she doesn't like plastic junk she really like this for him and he was very happy with the results he's very proud of his crystal growing! The colors are vivid

Does make crystal but read full review!
I got this for my 8 year old son. He wasn't really interested,I'll be honest so I started it and would show him the process and he started to think it was cool. He likes the end product. I left it in the soulution a week more than the suggested time because our Crystals were not sticking out above the water yet and once they were I poured water out and left in cup to dry for like 2 days. I did all 3 at the same time. I followed instructions. Worked great!! I always have disposable gloves at home but it would have been nice to have been included though. Also would have been nice if light stand came in black or blue instead of purple . I mixed it out side in the patio just to be safe. I instead of my son took it out of the containers once dried because they are fragile. UPDATE:(Last 5 pics show what I'm talking about)about a week after writing the review and them being out on stand about 2 weeks, the stand and the acrylic shelf I bought for this started getting crusty as if the Crystals are still forming. They are also starting to look frosted instead of clear. The clear is turning blue. I orginally had 5 stars but went to 3. They were dry before placing on stand because I even left let in containers to dry longer for about 2 days after I poured out solution even elevated it more to dry out the bottom. Kind of a bummer !!!

Lots of fun watching them grow
We have only made 4 small crystals so far, but my 2 boys (5 and 6) really enjoyed checking on them daily and watching them grow. We are looking forward to starting the next ones. Note: The little display containers are not very secure. Since my kids are younger and like to keep touching/examing them, I waited until the crystals were completely dry and used hot glue to glue them to the black base and glued the lids on as well.

Great grandchildren project
I bought this to do with my grandson. The instructions can be improved. Of key note is that after the powder has dissovled and the liquid mixture has cooled, there is NO MORE STIRRING AFTER THE POWDER IN THE LIQUID HAS DISSOLVED. And this is the key: slowly pour in the right amount of crystal seeds to the individual display cup - DO NOT STIR THE CRYSTAL SEEDS. They need to stay exactly where they have fallen into the liquid in the display cup. Do not jiggle around. Let it sit undisturbed for at least 3 days or more. This part was not clear and I ruined the first one because of that. The instructions need to be much clearer on that part. For those crystals we did correctly - the results were amazing. Everyone was very impressed with these lovely crystals that my grandson and I 'grew'. I bought a second kit, to redo the one I ruined because we stirred the crystals seeds when we put them into the liquid. Another tip: When the crystal is done and washed off, put it on the black display flat, and then top with the display cup. I added a small piece of tape in 4 places on the bottom to hold the display plate and the display cup together otherwise it will fall apart.
